I saw this on another forum and thought this would be a cool challenge to take.100 Push Ups (http://www.hundredpushups.com/index.html) I'm going to start tonight and see where my fitness level is at and start from there.

So, anyone else up for the challenge?

what about those who can already do 100?
Seems a little pointless

Then don't do the challenge. Is it really that difficult to figure out? It's no different then when I see a Weight Watchers challenge. I don't do them because if I lost any weight, I'd disappear.

yep i'm doing this right now. i'm in the middle of week 5. it's pretty good, i started off by only being able to do about 30 push ups or so, i can do 55 now

and what's great about this work out is it only takes like 10 mins or so.

This is hardly what I'd call a workout.

Then why don't you challenge yourself and do 1000 pushups instead?

When I was in grade 6, we had a competition in gym to see who could do the most situps. Everyone else was done well before the end of class, but my buddy Brett and I just kept going, with the permission of the principal. We ended up doing situps for hours, and although I don't recall what the actual number was, I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around 2,500. At least over 2G anyway.

Now that I'm older and out of shape, I'm pretty sure I could do 50. I just keep telling myself the added difficulty is due to the muscle mass I've packed on in the last 10 years. :)

Is testing how many pushups you can do what you consider a workout?

Get the form standardized ... rigid body and chin to ground, ala crossfit standard

For some people 25 pushups is a workout. For others 50. What does it matter to you what someone considers a workout? I stand by my challenge, you do 1000 consecutive pushups and come back and tell us that it's not a workout.

I don't think that that is what he is getting at. He doesn't consider it a workout because it does not target more than 2 or 3 muscles? So even if you do 10000000000000 push ups, he would consider lets sayyyy 30 push ups and 10 squats as more of a work out. That is just what I am getting from his posts, maybe I am wrong, iunno.

PS. I ain't bashing the workout or anything since last year all I had were push ups and sit ups lol :D .

depends on how slow your pushups are and how far down you go, how far apart your arms are, and how straight your body is.

You guys are tards.
JWL had a good idea and most of you ruined it. Why does everyone have to be such a big shot on beyond nowadays?

I'll try this. In the initial test I did 40 consecutive. I was going pretty fast though, I'm going to try and slow down for the actual workout. The first couple of weeks should be fairly easy but I am sure it is going to pick up!

I'm worried that if I do situps in the nude that I'll shit all over the floor.

Just kidding.

I'm down for this.

I'm up for this, I'll try with you guys.

Push ups are actually one of the best upper body work outs you can do.

If you can do 100, I'd like to see you video tape it and post it on Beyond.

I'm not saying that this should be the only thing that you should do for a workout, but it's something that you can imcorporate into your regular workout.

I did this last night after doing my regular workout, I did some core and 2 sets of 25 reps with a 12lbs (squats, kickbacks, thrusters, bicep curls, bent over rows) calf raises, pushups and burpees. After that, I did the 100 push up thing.

instead of following the routine on the net, why dont you do say 3 sets to failure, then make yourself do 1 extra or something each time...
Im sure it will be alot more effective, than like in first week it says do 5-6, well...if you know you can do 8 lets say, why stop at 6, you could do alot better for yourself otherwise.

To make it more of a challenge, you should require that you can only do 1 push-up per second and maintain 1 push-up per second till you hit 100 ;)

...and to be very clear, a full push-up is chest to the floor, no bouncing, and back to a straight arm for each rep.

1 pushup/second would make the whole count a hell of a lot harder, good idea!

I'll try it tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes.

You guys ever do a deck of cards? In australia me and my friend would cut the deck in half , and then you pull cards and do the amount shown in pushups...

So Jack/King/Queen/Ace would be 10 situps , the rest of the numbers are pretty easy to guess... And then you see who gives up first lol.

It's been 8 weeks now. Anyone get through the program and do the 100 pushups?

kerry

I got up to 60 something. After that my triceps hurt like a bitch. Oddly enough they gave out first. I'll get to 100 one day lol.

kerry

At BJJ we have to do tonnnnnneeessss of crunches. Between 500 and 1000. It sucks balls.

Did you follow the full 6 weeks? I just started and 40 is already a stretch. I'll post back in about 6 weeks.

Hahahaha no I actually just changed my workout around to try and build endurance. Totally forgot about this until Sunday and I tried it again when I saw the thread.

Went from a Push-Pull Superset Routine to a Heavy/Light Set Routine.

Got a lot stronger, and gained endurance.

I did the whole 6 weeks and I didn't get to 100, I got to 60ish and like kerry said my triceps started to hurt like hell. It was good though and my chest is definitely more defined after it.

Forgot about this thread.... I've been doing them, but not consistently. I started with 20 and I'm up to 40 right now. :)

Even separating the 100 pushups into 5 sets is tough. I doubt I'll be able to do them consecutive in 5 more weeks time.

kerry
10-16-2008, 10:56 AM
If I broke it into 3 sets I could nail that shit for sure. But 100 straight is asking a lot. 5 wouldn't be a breeze, but still do able. Personally, 3 sets would be best for me.

I'll try this again in a few weeks.

prae
10-16-2008, 12:15 PM
I'm only good for about 45-50 in three sets...

kerry
10-18-2008, 02:02 PM
I did 60 no problem in 3 sets... I'll try to do 100 in 4 sets. 100 in a row is asking a lot though lol.

arian_ma
10-18-2008, 02:05 PM
I can probably do 120 if I really went all out in 3 sets. But that's because I weigh nothing, it must be a lot harder for you bigger guys.

rc2002
10-18-2008, 02:17 PM
It took me 2 weeks to be able to do 100 in 4 sets but I had almost nothing left in the tank for the last set.

Next try will be 100 in 3 sets. I'll probably call it quits when I can do 100 in 2 sets.

kerry
10-18-2008, 05:02 PM
Hahahah when I do 100 in 2 sets I'll be stoked. I'll give this another shot next week. I'll just go all out for a set, all out for a set and all out for a set and see what happens.

Any updates? I told my friend about the 100 push ups thing and we set up a friendly competition where we have to beat each other's push ups within 36 hours. We started off at 20 clean push ups on the 19th, now we are at 70. Pretty sweet how we are just 30 away from 100.

Oh yeah, loser buys a case of RTDs for winner.
