I got a quote for a 50 inch plasma tv and the extended warranty cost was 600 bucks. Is there another place where I can buy extended warranty without buying the unit itself?

Yes, there are third party warranties available. Also, most manufacturers have extended warranties available through their own company. Lastly, to the best of my knowledge Visions gives you the warranty back if you don't use it (in store credit towards a 400 dollar purchase), and they're the only place who offers that refund. I have heard the Brick does it too now, but I haven't verified.

Hope it helps.

Can you give me some names of places where I can get third party warranty?

I'm pretty sure at FS and BB, it also depends on the price of the TV. If it goes above certain price points, so does the price of the extended warranty.

Realistically, it's not worth going 3 years warranty, if you do it, then go at least 4 since you can easily get 2 years (free) through the mfg and credit card.
