so i kinda wanna start getting into a bit of photography just to try it out. im actually not too knowledgable about lenses/flashes, just curious if there is like a popular site or something to look at for those things?

as for a camera i was deciding between the nikon D60 and the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. I'm pretty much gonna end up going to bestbuy or futureshop unless someone can point me to a good site to get camera stuff?

Try DP Review or Steve's Digicams

Also try posting in the proper Photography forum section ;)

1) Browse the Photographers' Corner section of Beyond

2) Buy your gear from The Camera Store downtown

If you're intent on buying online (seeing as you're from Regina anyways), www.bhphotovideo.com is a good soruce. I bought most of my current camera equipment from them. They were pretty efficient in processing/shipping the order. They accept paypal as well.

Why's that? I know someone in Vancouver who's coming all the way to Calgary to get a camera from TCS! Haha! You can also order from them online.

As mentioned previously, you can order online from TCS. BH is nice but keep in mind that shipping is expensive, brokerage more so, and sometimes there are warranty complications with cross-border purchases.

Worry more about the lens.. I'd start with an 18-200 VR and grab the D60.. unless you can go with the D80 + 18-200

You need to consider the whole system and not just the camera. Although Nikon has the best flash system, also look at who makes the lenses you want and can afford now, and who makes the lenses you might want to buy down the road.

The Nikon D90 (D80 replacement) is expected to be annouced in September at Photokina if you aren't in a big rush to get a camera. It should have the same sensor as the D300 as well. If you want something sooner than that, you can't go wrong with the D80 but go have a look at both Nikon and Canon at any local camera store and hold them all to assess build quality and see if any of them are more comfortable than others.

i'm going to emhpasize the comfort factor...i was looking at cameras like the d80 and xti and couldnt get over how small the xti was, my hand felt like it would cramp up if i held it for any period of time so i ended up with a 30d.

not to hijack the thread or anything but I'm in the same boat as the OP.

But I'm looking at a used EOS Digital Rebel XT for around $500 I've seen a few.

Used good or don't risk it?

I would like to upgrade.

Can't you buy new ones for $500 or less? I think you can also get a brand new Nikon D40 for under $400 now, body only.

I can't freaking believe that, I paid 700 for mine. That was with the kit lens though.
