Squeking Gears

When i place my shifter to the left it squeaks once and then either shift to 1st or 2nd gear it squeaks once more. I just got a tune up yesterday and asked the mechanic about it and he said that was normal. What do you recommend to fix this problem?

depends where its squeaking from. is it inside the car or does is sound like its coming from the transmission?
