geez...it took me 90 minutes to get from infiniti dealer to mckenzie lake

I saw the scene from the 130ave overpass but couldn't get a good enough pic. It looks bad tho.. there's debris going from one side to the other on deerfoot.

I betchu someone was trying to exit or merge when this happened... too many people crowd up the right hand lane even though their exit is 1 km away.

I heard it happen from my room, and it didn't sound pretty at all.

highway is open as of 9pm I believe. They took forever to clean it up because I think they were trying to reconstruct the scene... must have been a messed up crash if it took them that long.

Yeah, that was BS, couldn't get to Gold's till alot later because everything was clogged. I left Gold's around 9ish and Douglasdale BLVD. was still a bit blocked up:dunno:

445 it happed and at 9pm they still had it closed...thats crap if you ask me....the people involved would have been taken to the hospital by 5pm...4 hours to clean up the high way...come on

Sorry i just got home after a long ass detour..little frusterated...my daughter cried all the way home..:banghead:

That's messed. I actually just came back from Kamloops today, and there was a minivan with the back end mangled from a semi as well along the way.

Tis the season for smashing semis.

I'm pretty sure you understand the time for closure was not only for clean up. When there is a significant injury or a death they have to investigate/reconstruct.

especially when they can only have 1 chance to take a look at the scene to give answers to families involved.

I am trying to figure out why something like this would happen. The entry and exit lanes are long enough to not cause problems. I still think this could've been avoided if people who want to take the McKenzie exit don't stay in the right most lane from Douglasdale onewards... screwing things up for people merging from Barlow Trail and people leaving for 130th Ave. AND people merging from 130th Ave. (Not that I'm making any presumptions as to what happened)

The same goes for Deerfoot northbound just north of Anderson Rd where people merging from Anderson Rd. try and switch lanes really quickly just to get to the left most lane... which is utter stupidity because that causes the rest of the traffic to slow down. Also, people who want to take the glenmore exit for some reason want to just switch into the third right lane as soon as they cross Anderson...?!? WHY??! There's more than enough room later on where the highway is 4 lanes wide....

If people didn't have as much Ego when behind the wheel... we wouldn't have half the problems/accidents we do.

Its hard resisting the SUV bash-commentary on "two SUVs hit a semi" .....it couldve easily been "semi hit two SUV's".

Yikes, how did this happen? RIP to the motorist. Condolences to his family. :(

Traffic was a nightmare. Quickest way out of it was to cut through Douglasdale but my delivery drivers were already on Deerfoot in a log jam.

RIP

From what i could tell on the 130th ave overpass this accident happened on the furthest left lane. There was a champagne colored chevy pickup truck that was facing north with its front end all smashed up and a black SUV behind it with its front end also smashed up but facing South. About 100 meters away was a semi trailer on the side of the road parked.

I drove by 10 minutes after it happened (I was on Deerfoot, not the overpass)

The black explorer had no damage to the drivers rear but the tire was flat. Apparently he lost control and hit the Chevy, which then spun and hit the highboy trailer.

The Chev went off the road into the concrete median then ended up back on in the middle lane facing northbound. The lady in the Chev is okay.

Buddy in the explorer went flying out the drivers side window and bonked his head on the road.

Totally speculating looks like he lost the drivers rear tire and with the short wheelbase on those 2 door mid 90's explorers quickly lost control.

either way if he was wearing his belt he would have been fine, the explorer was smashed up but not nearly as badly as the Chev.

^ hmm... wonder if they were firestone tires.

They had a huge problem years ago with hot weather and highway speeds resulting in tires rapidly deflating.
