i was wondering if a 1996 civic hatchback has vtec cables in so that i can do a motor swap

The vtec wiring is not present unless it is a vtec model to begin with. In order to have functional vtec, you will need to add the knock sensor, vtec solenoid, and vtec pressure switch.

Or, just pull the vtec cable everytime you need it.. it should be located under the dash on the drivers side. ;)

you have to run them yourself... and its worth it to convert the car to OBD1 while you're at it.

Even if you lack the "Vtec" calbes you can still have them added to the car. So if its a question of is this car even worthy of a swap? Yes! It's just all dependant on the size of your wallet! Granted if for some freak reason your car lacks the wires it's in no way expensive to get them xD

be warned if you do go OBD2-OBD1 to get the proper ecu LIKE A pm6 or a p28 aswell as you will need to make your own wiring harness which is a bit of a bitch. there are tons of DIY manuals on the net, however i suggest getting a haynes manual as they have a complete wiring diagram in english, since you spell well i know you aint no asian dude who can read that shit from honda. :devil:

a pm6 is an obd0 non vtec ecu so it would make absolutely 0 sense to use that for this swap.

a p28 would need to be chipped and have a map from a dohc vtec engine to work.

Usually when you buy a swap it comes with the ecu that works with it.

For obd1 it's usually a p30 ecu and on an obd2b car it's a p2t ecu that works with the b16a2 engine.
