^^^ Umm.. That first pic shows pretty good what happened. The truck was parked beside the track, arm came in the path on the train, train smashed it, and pic of aftermath.

No wonder why I was waiting forever for a train downtown.

Just drove by at lunch, the front of that train looked pretty wrecked.

Westbound Crowchild traffic is OK, lots of rubberneckers so it'll definately be a bit slower there. It's the eastbound lanes that's closed off.

ah man this is ridiculous. How bad do you think crowchild will be after 5:30?

Six people have been rushed to hospital after a C-Train slammed into a construction boom earlier this morning.

Around 10:14 am, a southbound train approaching the Brentwood Station hit a crane that apparently had swung into it's path.

Six people, including the driver and a child, were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries

The LRT line is presently closed between the Dalhousie and University station. City crews have had to cut the power, and shuttle busses are transporting passengers between the Dalhousie station and Banff Trail station.

Witnesses tell 660News it was an ENMAX crane that was involved, adding ENMAX had asked for the LRT line to be shut down for work scheduled to begin at 10:30.

The collision occurred 15 minutes earlier.

Any word on how the train service is running? Delayed big time?

last i heard on the news was that the train derailed and it will take 2 days to fix it. quite the delay!

It's a sign. I haven't taken the train in years and the day I do, this shit happens.

Gah, if they're running shuttle busses tonight downtown is going to be a total gong show, even for those heading to the fish creek area.

Stupid crane! :whipped:

A friend of mine just told me he saw a a jeep get hit by a train by Barlow.... Two train wrecks in one day? Can anyone verify?

Not really a crane.. More like an Enmax truck with a boom on it. So I wonder who's fault it was...

That section of track pretty much has perfect visibility. I wonder if the driver just didn't see the boom hovering over the tracks, or if the Enmax guys must've hit the wrong switch and swung the boom over the tracks as the train approached. It looks like the train had lots of time to slow down cause they are usually doing about 80km/h over that section, and from the pics, the train pretty much stopped where it got hit. And must've been quite the impact if it was able to derail the train.

Either way looks like there was some kind of communications break down.

Calgary Transit's reply to an e-mail re: operation this afternoon

I think that the notice for the website is just being completed and should be up shortly. I can tell you though that at this time the train is running on a single track so the trains must wait for each other in order to bypass the unusable portion of track. They are going to repair the track as quickly as possible but it is probable that the single tracking will still be in effect this afternoon during rush hour.

I'd say it's likely the driver was already hard on the brakes by the time the train got hit, but still had enough speed to cause damage.

Yeah sorry that's what I meant to say. He was definitely hard on the brakes already. But just wondering if the boom was already over the tracks (in which case the Enmax guys should've had plenty of time to move it) or if the boom just swung out suddenly.

In any case, have fun getting home Trev!! :D

Hahaha, screw that, I'm taking the 20! I'd rather have an extra 4 block walk than deal with the clusterfuck that the C-train is gonna be!

Weird, I had no problems getting from University to downtown over the lunch hour and back.

Thats because the crash is between brentwood and dalhousie.

The wrecked train has already been moved behind Dalhousie. Nothing to see, no traffic problems. I also saw a train on the "accident" track, so there should be zero problems going home.

Confirmed. Just took the train to Dalhousie expecting a clusterfuck @ rush hour. No slow down.
