On my way home today I drove by this Escalade .

He either needed the 22's for his Tahoe, or he got jacked .

Where was that spotted??
Perhaps he can't afford to roll on 22's yet.

Years ago, I remember seeing an Olds Alero on firewood. Who jacks Alero wheels??

At least they were good enough to set it on bricks? It's like the gentleman's way to steal. 'nothing personal mate, but i need my drug money' :dunno:

shitty deal either way.
Why not just keep a locking set of lugs all the time:dunno:

Unless your car is so slammed that getting conventional jacks underneath is near impossible.

that being the only exception.

That sucks yo. I will be optimistic and assume he just went to get the stock rims replaced with some baller ones.

Haha, I used to think the same, but I believe the bricks are their so its easier to steal the rims one by one.

Its Naive to think that criminals are caring for the wellbeing of a car.

lol.... this is exactly how I view it. It would be that much more devestating to come out and have your vehicle playing slip and slide with the pavement. Still sucks though - I'd go freakin ballistic if I saw someone trying this on my vehicle.

That sucks!

This happened to a friends F-150 Harley Davidson. They took the stock wheels off it and left it sitting on blocks. Those were some very expensive wheels too.

Nufy
08-29-2008, 10:39 AM
If they aren't stolen, he is a douche for leaving the rotors sitting on blocks.

You can afford an Escalade but can't afford jack stands ???

It's easy to steal rims with bricks or wood. You jack the vehicle up so the wheels are off the ground and place a high enough brick or piece of wood so that the wheels remain off the ground, then a couple other dudes go bang bang and bang you have some rims.

the real question is, how did the thieves get the lock nuts off? Snap on sells universal lug remover kits. Gotta be liscensed mechanic to get one though. Pretty neat things. You can take off probably 7 or 8 out of 10 styles of lugs

Why did he leave it on blocks if he's getting new rubber? Why not drive the car to the shop? Presumably, he's having the rubber put on the stock rims? I don't see the point.

If you think that is bad listen to this:

I work for a oilfield trucking company. One of our tractor trailer units was parked in a well lit truck stop in Edmonton right beside the restaurant.

I get a call at 7:30 AM from the waitress at the restaurant saying our truck is parked outside and it's balancing on some blocks and they are worried it's going to fall over. Naturally I say "WTF?" and call dispatch. They inform the driver and he heads out to check out the truck (he's a leased operator). Turns out sometime in the middle of the night someone stole all 8 tires off the back of the tractor - while the trailer was still attached!. Now that takes balls. You don't just show up with a crappy tire jack and a $5 tire iron and remove 4 sets of big truck tires and rims. Somebody had to have a truck and air tools to do the job. The leased operator took roughly a $14000 hit for that.

No because he owns the truck?

That does take balls though, must have been someone that had access to a service truck.

Correct. He owns the truck. It would be like me stealing the rims off my RX7. Only crime there would be if you tried to put it through as an insurance claim. But since the deductible on big truck insurance is $25,000 I doubt he put in a claim.

If this is true that neighbor has to be one of the most ghetto fabulous guys around. It probably costs an extra $60 at most for the shop to do the swap if the rims are on the truck.

If they really wanted to be courteous, they could've used a set of matching axle stands.

Either way, I hope those bastards get caught. I can't stand car thieves! :whipped:

Just yesterday my office manager was telling me this happened to her ex's Suburban. It was parked in his driveway. (No she didn't do it!)
Years ago a fellow I worked with was at a crime seminar and came home to find his company car on blocks. Ironic I thought.

:bullshit: Get in shit for what?? Owning a perfectly legal socket?

Most cops wouldn't even know what the hell the socket was if you got pulled over. Shit you can buy them at princess auto now, I have had a set in my truck for over a year now because I had to help a buddy fix a flat tire on his truck and he bought the truck with no lug keys. It's still in my toolbox and chances are I won't pull it out either.

Update. Last Sat night THREE neighbours got wheels taken same night. Yukon, Avalanche and extended cab.
Two at end of my block and other a block away. Guys who took them better hope the cops find and protect them before the one guy finds them. When I first met him I thought the party was being raided by bikers. This guy is BIG. Heck even his wife could punch my lights out.
Oh Douglasdale by the way.
Fourth neighbour had wheel locks, untouched.

lock nuts are next to useless.

I lost my lug nut key. I removed it with a $3 12 point socket from princess auto. I just pounded the socket on and it had enough bite to remove the lug nut.

Most people can't fit theirs in their garage. I have 2 inches between front bumper and door, and the rear bumper goes over two steps in my garage with my ESV. lol
