View Full Version : IKEA Broder Shelving System - Static?

Hey everyone,

My company just moved into it's new office and I have to furnish the IT Workroom with tables and some shelves.

I was looking at the IKEA Broder Shelving system as it can hold a lot of weight and is somewhat modular and can be customized on the fly. Most of the components are made of galvanized steel - meaning that it's been electrostatically charged with nickel (right?) to prevent rusting.

We'll be storing spare workstations, LCD's and printers on there. What I'm wondering is: will there be a huge risk of static being discharged using this shelving unit, potentially affecting the electronics?

They did have wood shelves for the unit, but they're currently sold out so my only option is to use the galvanized steel shelves.

What does Memory Express use for their shelving? Isn't it all steel as well? Does anyone know where I can get those industrial type shelves? For under a grand?

Thanks for any input.

Cheers to Friday!
