I eat pork about once a year.

I think it taste ....I think it tastes like I think they smell. piggy...that smell sometimes makes me want to gag. We were raised to not eat hoofed animals, . ...and it just sort of stuck with me my whole life. So yes it's a religious thing...even though I myself do not practice the religion.

And I do like BBQ pork from Happy Valley and I do like Ribs but don't very often buy either.

But really we just avoid it.

and BTW, feedlot beef (i.le. most of the beef you can buy, unless you're paying high buck for free-range or organic) is just as bad if not worse than pigs. those cows spend 2 or 3 weeks wading up to their bellies in cow shit, crammed in so they can't move and put on massive weight gain before slaughter. jsut as nasty as pig farming.

same goes for chickens... i'm from the midwestern USA where there are lots of chicken farms, and i tell you, chicken houses are one of the grossest, nastiest, stinkiest things i've ever seen.

My grandfather was Jewish, and I grew up with mostly jewish and muslim friends, I heard no pork, but nothing about hooved animals. The only religious people I know that don't eat any type of meat are Hindu.

This is so inaccurate it's laughable. Having been raised in the beef industry, there is a huge "scare" out there, that farmers spend their time shooting drugs into animals non stop.. The fact of the matter is, when a calf is born it gets a shot of penicillin usually (just to protect it as a new born). It then eats and grows naturally for 8-10months and moves to a feed lot. There it eats it's ass off for a few more months, and then it's killed.

The only time I would ever see another needle given was if it were sick in some way.. Or had an injury.. It would get another shot of penicillin, and then it's not allowed to be butchered for I think 45? days after the needle is given, so that the shot is out of it's system.. Canadian beef is not grown with anything more then grass, grains, corns, and potatoes.. It's illegal otherwise, and not profitable.. Farmers don't make any money as it is, there would be no profit at all if they had to buy drugs to shoot up cows with all the time.

My favorite pork right now is the super thinly sliced fast fry steaks you buy at the supermarket. Brush em down with a little olive oil and grill on teh BBQ and they are cooked perfect in 3-4 minutes.

I would assume the numbers are out there if you dig hard enough. But I would guess quite a lot, the customer demands it in many ways. Which is why you always see the "alberta beef" slogans, or "canadian beef" at mcdonalds. It's not really economical for us to import it, when we export so much ourselves. I watched that frankensteer video yesterday, it even explains how the borders needed to be opened back up, because america can't support it's beef needs.. However, doing this you will always have a risk of getting food poisoning, but i think if you started eating raw stuff from when your little your body should be in a good enough shape to fend off most of these bacteria/viruses/parasites. i know a farmer who grows cows and pigs, he said pigs are as clean as human, they don't stay in the same area that they shit or pee unless there's no where else to go.

Everyone has this image in their head that pigs roll around in mud all day.. That may have been the case 100yrs ago when a farm only had a handful of pigs kept outside, but nowadays these things live in barns with a cement floor, with either straw or a grate and all shit falls thru, to the tank below, where it is then sucked up and plastered all over the fields that grow your grains and vegetables.. So if you think pigs have shit on them, you should check your potatoes and whole wheat bread, for poison, and don't spout brainwashed shit stories that are false.. City kids acting like they know farming, that's as bad as an 08.

So I've dug up a couple of hog barns. The first is your typical solid floor setup, with straw (the stock off of grain) used for bedding, the pigs are then herded out, while you push all of the straw out with the tractor, and then spread new fresh straw down every couple of days), also those pigs look pretty clean..

If you truly believe this and still eat beef you are a hypocrite. You should take a stroll down to southern alberta and check out any of the many cattle feedlots if you're concerned about animals we eat wallowing in their own shit. The pork industry is highly regulated, if you go to a pig barn, you must wear protective suits and footwear decontaminated. You eat sushi? Because by your logic, you better avoid it too.
