Well the season is a week away, to lazy to dig up the old thread so lets trash talk and start the banter here.

Patriots with the easiest schedule of all this year 16-0 repeat anyone? ;)

Cant wait to see the Chad vs Brett matchup week one, go chad go! :drama:

Arizona. For real this year

(not really)

There isn't going to be a dark horse going deep into the AFC side of the picture. Patriots, Colts, Chargers... yeah... nothing else really needs to be said.

Unless Manning, Brady, LT fall to injury (Yes I know Manning, LT just came back from injury but they'll do fine, Brady said he's okay to go to so I see him opening the season as well) I see them repeating some good performances

I am so friggin upset that brady is hurt. Alot of reports are coming back that brady is out for the season, but none of the reports are citing anyone with those results. Only thing concrete was something from the team stating he will go in for a MRI tomorrow.

I really hope is it just a sprain or something, and will be back in a few weeks.

One thing that does worry me, is that the pats went and contacted Simms who is currently a free agent about 10 mins after getting brady off of the field. I hope it is just as a precautionary measure.

even on the NFL.com website, they are not citing any kind of source for this.

Rome had a point this morning. Cassell might just do alright or whoever they bring in to replace the QB. They have a good schedule, mad talent on both sides of the ball and one of the best coaching staffs. It's a good situation.

I totally agree with you. Cassell justs need to a decent job (which he did). It's not like Brady was the entire team. Of course he was a huge part of it, but there's still plenty of skill to go around.

5hift

Cassell might do alright in the regular season getting the Pats into the playoffs, but lets not get too excited. I dont see Cassell signaling audibles from reading the D to Moss and Welker with the home crowd screaming against them the way Brady did. Lets also remember they played the Chiefs and see how Cassell holds up against a real D.

Patriots placed QB Tom Brady on injured reserve, ending his season.

Sep. 8 - 3:07 pm et

so much for speculation

pvirk
09-08-2008, 02:10 PM
That might be true, but it was more than just talent that tom brady brought to the field and to the team. Cassel will be fine as long as he is able to get his timing clock in check with wes and randy. Personally i think that they will play cassel and chris simms if he clears physical to see which one fits in better with the team. Either way the team still has a chance to do fine, their goal is changed tho for sure now, instead of winning the superbowl making the playoffs should be the new team goal. PLUS RANDY IS THE MANNNNN

The secondary is damn good aswell, Newman Henry and Jones as a nickelback. Not to mention Hamlin and Williams are good safeties (even though Williams blows in coverage)

Dallas is loaded with talent.. maybe the 2nd reciever is a weakness..?

This is what I love about the NFL, you can do all the research and speculation, know the matchups inside and out, and its worth shit once the game starts.

2 weeks ago all the talk was about AFC dominance and how the NFC was weak. Now the best three teams in the league are all arguably from the NFC East (feel sorry for Washington).

We had to deal with all this Favre drama BS all summer only to see this Rogers kid play even better than the aging Favre was. Hey maybe packer management knew what they were doing when they tried to force Favre into retirement for two consecutive years to save him the humiliation and public outcry of benching him?

Holy fuck is Denver exciting to watch. Cutler, Marshall, Royal, Schefler - they really know how to draft, this team is going to put up more points than the days of Elway. And Indy's 18 unanswered points to come back and win 18-15 in the Metrodome against the hyped up Vikings D? Nothing rattles Peyton. Speaking of hype what the fuck happened to the Chargers, Browns and Vikes?

And anyone that doubted Bill Belichick - He has a team built for a passing attack, has a set playbook and an entire summer of training and running plays built around it, loses his MVP/team captain/QB week one, throws it all out the window and is winning with ugly smash mouth football and a solid D now.

Having another high quality reciever could be huge help in spreading the ball around. Also if I had to pick a 2nd stringer to step up I can't think of anyone better than Brad Johnson, he has made a career of stepping up at the right time. Maybe his experience will provide leadership that the cowboys seem to need.

I don't think there's enough balls to go around already between TO, Witten and Barber catching so many balls out of the backfield now. Cue biennial TO blowup and team change. Where will he go next?

That is a good point, but having to add good coverage to Williams may actually get TO more ball time.

The cowboys got ripped off in the Williams deal. He's a good reciever, and will eventually replace TO as the #1 guy in Dallas, but he's not worth 3 draft picks.

To the guys saying there is not enough balls to go around, Williams will help TO as now they cannot double team him on every play. Once Romo is back, you guys will see how much space they are going to have to give TO.

And Sabbad, its not the coaching staff's fault the Cowboy D cannot make a tackle. I know Steven Jackson is hard to bring down, but I have never seen so many missed tackles in my life. Jason Garret is probably the best offensive coordinator in the league, but he needs Romo back to run the offense.

md14
10-20-2008, 11:11 PM
Yeah and once Al Harris is back Green Bays secondary is going to get that much better.

Broncos do got the worst pass D in the league but hey its a nice boost for a young QB and lets the Pats build a little momentum.

Bailey is a monster though, if he stayed in I think the game would have been a little different. It's got to suck for him and Bly they should be one of the leagues top combos but with such a lack of a pass rush they are getting jacked, and no 4-5 sacks against the Patriots does not count... there o-line is just porous.

I was surprised the Pats D-Line (most over rated ever...) out played Denvers o-line. Cutler just wasn't getting the time he usually was.

Much needed, I've been hating on Nolan for a while. He's supposed to be a defensive minded coach but the Niner D is just brutal despite having quite a few quality players. None of the players respected him and he would override Martz on some key offensive posessions electing to protect the ball, punt and try to let the D win it like the Niners are the Bears or something.

The replacement guy is brutal too, but rumblings are Holmgren might be taking over next year as even though he supposidly is taking a year off, he is building a house in San Fran.

They should use Davis as a TE when running the ball so he can block.

When he wants to catch, play him out WIDE. and use diversions for that....I don't watch very many SF games, but i hope they're doing that.

Haha speaking of making his mark, did you hear about what he did during halftime of the last game? He pulled his pants down, turned around and bent over to show the team what Seattle was doing to the them. He then proceded to rip the team for 4 minutes, while his pants were still around his ankles. Not to mention that crazy tirade shown on tv after in the post game conference.

Mike Martz offenses never feature the tight end for anything besides blocking. He prefers 3 reciever sets and doesnt like TE's. Been like that since his offensive coordinator days in St. Louis. With Martz coming in it was unfortunetely known this would happen.

Davis is used as blocking on running plans, thats the problem. He is a viscious blocker and is one of the better blocking TE's in the league, the problem is they never feature pass plays to him.

This is the overall problem with Vernon Davis. He is a workout freak with insane speed (dont know who watched the last game but he ran down a corner from the other side of the field on a INT return). He has great hands as well, but he CANNOT remember the complicated offensive playbook. On many plays last year his timing would be off, or he would do a 10 yard hook when it was supposed to be a 8 yard hook, resulting in a INT/sack etc.

There are actually rumblings now that Vernon should be have converted to a linebacker during college as he cannot handle the complications on offense. When he gets the ball into his hands, its a whole different story as he is a beast to bring down.

At the NFL level though, I'd think they could pair him with a good wide reciever coach in the offseason and fix this problem if Davis was really dedicated.

I'm just a general fan who loves watching it but lack the knowledge of a real fan who knows all the positions, ins and outs of the game!

So yeah, are the Titans for real? I watched part of their game against Green Bay. The O line is good. The D line is good. Hell Kerry Collins just needs to 'manage' the game, 'protect' the ball and 'hand' it to the running back. But can they keep this up? :dunno:

Detroit still losing. 0-16 still a possibility and I would love that.

When is Romo going to be back? Why is Brad Johnson doing so poorly? Just an old man with nothing in the tank? They better get it together because the rest of their div is going strong.

What's wrong with the Bengals anyway? Well other than Carson Palmer being out but they started out 0-4 or 5 before he got injured? You figure with those receivers they would have at least won a couple games.

Detroit on the other hand probably just sucks. Didn't they go 4/5-0 in the pre-season? I guess that doesn't mean much lol

PGTze
11-04-2008, 03:06 PM
They took the Giants to OT in week 1 and should have beat them, it's been all downhill from there, but to sum up what's wrong with them (long read haha)...
- Marvin Lewis sucks as a coach, needs to be fired
- Carson Palmer being injured does not help
- Ocho Cinco has played poorly this year and looks like he doesn't want to be on the field
- Their O-line is big, looks good on paper, but are way overrated and can't run block or pass block as well as they have the last few years(you would hope for at least one)
- Chris Perry was had like 7 fumbles in 6 games or something close to that, and Cedric Benson sucks but at least he hangs on to the ball I guess
- They have no idea how to use a TE in the passing game
- The D line is okay on the run stop, but rarely get any serious pressure on QB's
- They got rid of their third best CB and their best CB (Jonathan Joseph) has been hurt

... all that said, surprisingly enough their Defense has actually been their strong point this year, the offense has been an embarrassment outside of maybe Houshmanzadeh.
