Anyone else get really fluctuating speeds with Shaw extreme? I just upgraded to extreme a couple days ago and I've used:
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCare/InternetSupport/Residential/AlternateSpeedTest.htm
and
http://www.speedtest.net/
To test everything out, and the speeds range from 3mbps (~375kB/s) to 15mbps (~1.9mB/s). :dunno:

I get my 10/1 all the time, depends on the neighborhood (node) and the condition of your wiring/splitters. Call 310-Shaw for a health check or msg me your HFC MAC ID and I can look up your signal/noise levels, and the traffic stats on your node.

My other computer's downloading stuff, hence the slow download speed.

I've used several ISPs in town, and Shaw by far is the most stable.
The first test you posted is directly on shaw's servers. If that's fluctuating, then it's probably a problem with shaw's signal strength.
The second test isn't with Shaw, so traffic will slow 'er down.

usual speed for speedtest
Max download for torrents = 1.1mb/s
downloading anything from microsoft, apple, nvidia, etc I've gotta speeds upwards of 2.3mb/sec but most servers that arent owned by billion dollar companies will get around 300-700kb/s

You guys who are over 10 mbps are probably getting the higher results due to the Shaw PowerBoost.

Most i've ever gotten was 26,000kb/s. It really fluctuates.
Also my ping seems to be alot slower than everyone elses. How do I make my ping speed faster?

If i upgrade my home connection, do I keep my same modem? We've had it since 1997 or so..
I got a letter from Shaw last month, my limit for basic is 60gb down and I did 180, oops.

Do you have the flat CyberSURFR or the black upright SB5100 series? You wanna get a SB5100 anyway... those will do lite/reg/xtreme/nitro and are just way better overall.

I live near Parkland/Bonavista... No complaints from me. Constant download speeds of 7-9 Mbps.

Xtreme has powerboost included... that's how you're getting 16000kb/sec.
I have the original CyberSURFR...
I heard that with the old boxes Shaw cant monitor what you download, versus with the new ones they can. Is that just a myth and will I notice a difference in speeds?
