Ok, here's the deal. I upgraded the motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU of my PC.

- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
- Asus P5Q Motherboard.
- OCZ 600W PSU
- OCZ 4GB DDR2 1066 RAM

Old bits:
- 80GB Maxtor HD SATA
- DVD/RW Drive IDE
- Radeon 800XL 256MB PCI-E

(Way in spec for the game.)

When I launch Supreme Commander I get to the main menu just fine. Everything is good until I try and start a game. Campaign, skirmish or even the tutorial. The game crashes and I get the "Unexpected error" dialog box. :whipped:

I've defragged, checked the volume for errors, updated all drivers, updated .NET but it still won't work.

HELP! Am I missing something???? What could the weak link in the hardware be?:dunno:

Are you running Vista? Overclocking anything? Do you know your way around the BIOS?? Try some SiSoft Sandra benchmarks and see where it crashes...

Running XP Pro SP2. Nothing is overclocked.

I've been messing with the BIOS but when things started being unstable I put everything back to default.

Well, unless you screwed up some drivers, prime suspects are usually RAM and PSU, maybe vidcard... Sounds like RAM really, either pull/swap a stick or run some memory tests with Sandra and see if it craps out. Can also run 3D Mark and dxdiag for video...

sometimes a misplaced DLL file can cause this too, but its hard to say without pinpointing the problem :dunno:

have you tried to simply reinstall and repatch the game?

Run Memtest86+ and see if it finds any memory errors.

Sounds like when you start using you memory, it finds some bad stuff and craps on you.

If all the hardware checks out (memtest and a cpu stress test show nothing) then it is probably something with your profile. Lots of games cache video settings and other information and with hardware changes they can start crashing on you. BF2142 does this a lot when I switch monitors on my computer. To test if this is the issue start a new profile in windows and try the game there, or re-install the game.

Doubt it'd also cause firefox to crash unless you have some screwy add-ons, so I'm leaning towards a memory issue here too.

I've ran a couple of benchmarks with SiSoft Sandra with no issues.

I'm going to give MemTest86+ a shot and see what comes up.

It's SupCom dude. Delete it, reinstall it, download patch, restart, try again. It's finicky that way :P

Would a registry clean and then a re-install/patch possibly fix it??

Possibly. I had a similar error once and uninstalled/reinstalled/patched and it fixed it right up :)
