Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you all know about this model of Sony DLP.

Please be aware that it possibly could cause a fire, and as a community we should push Sony to recall this type of TV. Its no longer in production but who knows how many have bought it.

I had a service center look at this, and I went in to take the pictures... Some symptoms may be that either your house is on fire cause of the tv... or you smell some plastics burning, or your dog is barking at the TV cause of the smell.

This is off a 42" but if you have a similar design like 40", 50" or 52" something like that... you may want to look into it.

Model: KF42WE610

Due to the poor ventilation and design this is what happens:

ouch.

Sony has been pretty disappointing in terms of quality. It used to be that they had their low-end stuff, but their high-end stuff was always some of the best around.

Now, they have their low end stuff, and typically mid-range stuff at best. Definately not a great brand for tv's anymore....

my parents have this tv, years ago there was a issue with the fan/heat with them, they sent it in and now it had two honking 120mm fans in the area you have pictured.

Why are you calling it a DLP when the back of your TV says LCD?

Its and LCD projection that uses a bulb, I just call it a DLP cause its not a true LCD Flat Panel... but uses LCD technology.

What it consists of is 3 LCD screens (TINY) like the Panasonic Overhead Projector. Red, Blue, Green, but it still use a bulb to project the picture. That's why they call it a LCD Projection TV. That's the simple way of explaining, but regardless its still a big fire hazard.

Everyone should already know there are two distinct LCD-based technologies... Rear-Projection LCD and Flat-Panel LCD. I don't see how anyone could confuse them.

A Rear-Projection DLP is not the same as a Rear-Projection LCD. That was my only point when I made my first post.

Sorry for the hijack.

ROFL, could be one of most most false statements about Sony. Sony may not be known for reliability lately, but their LCD panels are consistently the best in the business, or competing for the top spot. Their high end XBR panels, which Samsung also uses, is nothing but the best. Check around on any large AV forum and you will see that Sony's are still a great brand, but you got to pay to play with them. When you even compare TVs that FF and BS offer you can see the difference between an XBR and any other TV, save Samsung.

I do however agree that this particular TV seems to have major QC issues, and is something worth mentioning to Sony to see if there is a recall or something in place.

Well Sony used to make quality stuff... now its just crap that doesn't work or could burn your house down. Sony has no recalls for this type of unit at the moment.
