View Full Version : Ninjavideos - how does it work?

Started using Ninjavideo a couple of months ago and it's fuckin awesome! But how is it they haven't been shut down? And how are they paying for all that bandwith? Just from the pop-ups and donations?

I'm amazed at the quality of some of the shows... it's better than regular cable, but not quite as good as HDTV.

LOL, I have no idea, they rock though, watched the Fringe premier 3 months ago there, dvd quality.

Second best site on the internet, after Beyond of course.

Yeah, I was looking at trying it out too. Are we sure that they're not using spyware?

They're hosted in Amsterdam... NL has much looser copyright laws. Looks like it's supported by donations... bandwidth is cheap these days ;)

Not too likely, people were afriad of that so they switched from the downloaded helper to the browser applet. If they were doing anything shady we would have probably heard something about it by now.

Ninjavideo is the bomb diggity ever since Stage6 and Joox went down

They're awesome for the TV shows but not so much when it comes to the movies...

Did you launch the ninja video helper?

Super_Geo
09-07-2008, 07:15 PM
- Open the helper
- Install Divx from their link
- Install Java

Then it should work...

opened ninjavideo helper 0.2.4, have divx loaded, and java up to date, but still "not a divx file" :(

Isn't this the site that asks you to download some file and install it first? I ran into that at one site and booked it out of there.

Before u had to download their Ninjavideo Helper and install it but they changed that due to hacker/spyware fears as Hakkola mentioned above, now its a browser based applet that you just click on and can watch the videos

My DEP on vista won't allow it to play anything. Closes firefox for "my computers safety"

Still no luck with this thing.. Anyone using vista and firefox?

IE won't work either for me though..

>Click here to launch the NinjaVideo Helper Beta 0.2.4

>You must click yes on the security dialog.

^I click the helper and it opens another window that says don't close it.. But what is the security dialog, where is that?

I'm on vista and IE7. I had to update my Java and DL the audio codec for it to work, but it works.

I'm also not using the windows firewall - I turned it off and have another one instead. Maybe that's it?

Supa Dexta

Link to codec?

Java installed, but DEP is still closing it in FF and IE.

97'Scort

Audio codec (choose advanced settings during the install, or it will re-assign it as your primary player choice):

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

DivX installer for Windows:

http://download.divx.com/player/DivXWebPlayerInstaller.exe

Whiley

comes up with a K-Lite codec DL, but lists 10 different ones
which is the right one, and what's necessary for?

97'Scort
09-09-2008, 12:05 AM
The K-Lite is for sound. You need the "default" install but you can do the one without the player if you'd like.

Whiley
09-09-2008, 01:03 AM
huh, okay? which one of these
http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm
still just get the "not a divx file" when trying to play vid?

LilDrunkenSmurf
09-09-2008, 11:36 PM
Mine just says can't find file... Firefox + Vista...

I have divx, java, audio codec. Doesn't work in IE either.

Edit: NVM!! It was my java. Updated it, and it all worked out.

4.1.7 full install.

**NOTE** I had a problem with mine, and here's how I fixed it: I had to download and install Microsoft Visual Studio express, install the .NET framework version 3.5 and download a beta version of DivX. This is for VISTA only.

Check out this forum page, bullet points #14, 23, 24.

http://forum.ninjavideo.net/viewtopic.php?id=18419

Anybody else who is having problems, your solution is probably there.

Whiley
09-10-2008, 01:43 AM
thanks for the link, it has the problem listed = 2.c.
but OMFG then try and find the right fix(s?) on that long list, and without buggering something up?
i'll try the 4.1.7 install and #14, 23, 24 as you suggested, see what happens?
:dunno:
wow, uninstall, reinstall, download this, download that, clear cache, search files, reset DEP, cleanup downloads folder, hidden folders, .rdf files :banghead:

:werd: Stealin' shit ain't easy anymore. The tech who mods that thread is pretty good too, if you try the fixes first and they don't work.

Edit: When you go to install Visual Studio, the page is really confusing. Just scroll to the bottom, you'll see 4 downloadable files. You can DL all 4 if you want but you only need the FIRST one.

Whiley
09-10-2008, 02:00 AM
i don't want to download any vids, just view streaming some episodes i've missed out on
do i need visual studio for XP also?
i DLd 4.1.7, but made no difference? still "not a divx file"?
double checked dixv and java, both up to date?
edit:
followed steps #14, but 23, 24 don't apply to me = XP

According to the list, it could be your Shockwave player that's screwed. Try re-installing that.

hm? cant see shockwave listed under programs?
cant see shockwave on install/uninstall programs list either
where is it located?
:dunno:
edit:
have java 6, up to date
have FF ver 3.0.1
cleared FF downloads list
changed FF cache up from 50MB default

Never heard of the site, will have to check it out once its online

I usually just download any tv show / movie that I want to watch from rapidshare. Takes about 5 minutes to download a 350mb show, or 15 minutes to download a 720p hd quality version with shaw extreme / rapidshare premium. And if you know where to get the links you can usually get any show an hour or two before it airs locally.

I am one of the Events and Programing Managers at Sait, once the bands hit the stage i sit in the office and browse lol, unless its a band that i really wanna see perform.

Ive never had any issues watching movies on my Sait Work account, but I occasionally bring in my own laptop at night too.

Still can't get it to work, first time around I got this error:

"the downloaded video file is not a divx file."

after installing divx web player. Searched around google and other people were having similar problems downgraded to 1.3 and it worked fine for them. Downgraded to 1.3 now I get this error:

"divx web player cannot play this url."

Get the latest version of java and then restart your computer. go on ninjavideo.net open up the ninjavideo helper 0.2.4 its one of the top links. once you open that wait for it to say online then you can watch or download anything you want
