Drinking a nice glass of 12 year old Appleton right now. Used to be into Whiskey but just recently started into the nicer Rums.

What does everyone on here enjoy that isn't cheap crappy liquor? And what does it cost?

Also just a nice liqueur to try which is brand new to Canada is Rated X. Give it a try for sure. At 39$ a bottle it's not expensive and it's very tasty.

ekguy
09-07-2008, 09:03 PM
hahaha it's not that expensive a few hundred can get you a bottle. haha. But seriously let's have it. Other than the usual scotch and whiskey and the such. What do people drink that is decent?

Something wrong with Scotch? I find a good single malt is about the best liquor there is.

ekguy
09-07-2008, 09:13 PM
I dunno I just seem to not be able to drink the hard liquor straight same as I used too. Rum gets smoother as it gets older which I like. I'm already on my third glass of this stuff in the last hour and it's phenomenal.

dj_rice

I drink it cold...I buy balla sake...IIRC the reason you drink some sake's hot is cause its shit quality and heating it, hides the impurity's

That isn't the basic appleton's by the way...By no means is it balling. But it's the one right before the 80$ bottle so it is quite nice. It's even a step above the reserve and the VX.

and edit. Chivas Regal has been my best friend on many a nights and my enemy many a mornings haha.

Appleton is probably one of the smoothest rums in the 12 year category, i love it.

This weekend was patron for me, you have not had TQ till u have had gran platinum. its like there's a party in your mouth and everyone's invited.

Other favorite is Tanqueray No. Ten or some Bombay Sapphire with tonic and orange slice, no hangover you can get totally trashed and still ummm perform when needed :)
If you like it sweeter sub in Ginger ale for the tonic and a lime for the orange slice, welcome to the world of pimpery.

Nah, its everywhere, Co-op, Superstore etc. Should be around $25/bottle. If you like big full bodied reds, this is the best bang for your buck.

Premium booze tends to be overpriced for no reason. The trick is finding the best stuff at a reasonable price.

For scotch I like Aberlour. $30-something a bottle and nice smooth taste.

http://bp1.blogger.com/_pap6Nk_TzZU/Rvc8Y4gpC3I/AAAAAAAAAQg/bIsBjvfTYJg/s320/aberlour_10yo_jpg_original_1.jpg

For wine I really like buying Penfolds Rawson Retreat. All of their wines in this line are about $12/bottle and are nice and smooth. No sense in over spending.

Tequila - Not even sure if you can buy them here
Jose Cuervo tradicional - 100% de agave azul
Don Julio Reposado

Rum
El Dorado - 15 y/o is what I have access to and prefer that for on the rocks drinking. If you have ever tasted 21 y/o, it is incredible and have only had the opportunity to taste it twice in my lifetime.

I personally prefer the amber rum, but to mix I just go with appleton, lemonheart or mount gay. Cheap and nothing special when you get to their more expensive bottles, so diluting it with mix doesn't bother me.

Pisco -
- I prefer the stuff La Serena or just straight ole Bauza. But this is definitely something you can do a Piscola or a Pisco Sour with. Just a national drink and something that I enjoy all the time.

Johnnie Walker Black - Not terribly expensive but a really nice finish. I like it better than the Red, Green, Gold, Blue. Glenfiddich 18 is a good substitute - I never really like chivas.

As far as Vodka goes, Van Goh Expresso is fantastic. Grey Goose is always alright.

Rum, Captain Morgan Spiced, but I will try out some of the other suggestions on here.

Crown and Coke are always a nice mix.

Another really good mix is Bailys and Coke.

I don't drink any fancy rum or whiskey but I do appreciate a good vodka.

Grey Goose is the vodka for Douchebags/Jagerbombers.
Belvedere is a good alternative when the lounge has it.

I've never tried this before but read it was amazing.
http://www.weblogsinc.com/common/images/9423187986453843.JPG?0.3151112500119849

Also I've had "3". It's a soy vodka. EXTREMELY smooth and fairly inexpensive. I think it was like $30-$35/bottle at Crowfoot Liquor.
http://www.bestinwine.com/shop/images/T/t_19580_01-01.gif

I'm a huge fan of Pearl Vodka. The only place I've been to that served it (mind you it's been a while since I've asked) was Open Sesame on Macleod. It's a little tougher to find in liquor stores as well.
http://www.pearlvodka.com/source/recipes/blackBottle.jpg

Stolicnaya Gold is fucking wicked (IMO). Smooth, but has a good flavour and isn't lifeless like a lot of "smooth" vodkas. Again, pretty rare. Whenever I see this in a liquor store I'll buy a bottle, but I never see it so I never have it. Been a while since I've looked for this as well so that could be the problem.
http://images.send.com/101937_big.jpg

I never got into Van Gogh. A lot of people like it though.

If you like the taste of espresso vodka you should try this neat trick out I've done before.

Take a bottle of a good smooth vodka. I used the "3" brand when I tried this. Anyways, go buy a bag of your favorite brand of espresso beans. Whole beans. Whether that be Starbucks, or from Safeway. Whichever you like the most. Bring them home and put 1-2 handfuls into the bottle when you open it. Throw the bottle back in the fridge/freezer/cupboard and leave it there for oh... a month. You can always check it for taste, but you can basically get the right amount of espresso flavour you want in your vodka, with your favorite beans at home instead of relying on artificial flavours. Your alcohol will also turn a slight brown colour once it starts getting a little stronger.

Got the idea when I saw this
http://www.beveragewarehouse.com/search/thumbnail.php?im=/home/beverage/public_html/images/products/3687.jpg

They do the same thing, only with a hot pepper.

Neil4Speed
09-16-2008, 10:43 AM
Kerry Great Post! Thanks I will try those out. I somehow suspected that Grey Goose was for Douchbaggers but lacked experience with good vodkas to be able to tell the difference. I suspected that it was the "Patron" of Vodkas
