I've been following this as well. Analysts are predicting steep iPod touch price cuts, so we'll see.

What time is the actual apple media event?

The only new item being announced today is the 4g Nano. Looks like this. Expect price cuts on most ipods including touch.

Time to have fun with Genius.

Let's see what goes great with the Katamari Damacy soundtrack.

EDIT: Oh wow, that menu system looks sweet as hell.
EDIT2: Shake to shuffle! Now you too can look like you have Down's while on the bus.

uhhh...why are they making the nano bigger? i like the 3rd gen nano shape and size, its goin back to gen 2 look with a longer body and screen, to be honest a screen a tad bigger from the old nano makes virtually no difference and pretty much not needed

if u want to watch videos, get the itouch etc

i thought apple had always made good choices when bringing new products in, such as gen 1,2,3 nano was good...but this one just seems to be unneccessary upgrade...

id buy a new nano, if they had a 3rd gen nano body, with a large screen pretty much using a touch screen mode as a play/volume etc

The earbuds are a great deal. To quote from Gizmodo

They've got dual drivers (woofer + tweeter), a setup you don't see until about the $200 mark with say, Ultimate Ears' Super.fi 5 Pro or Shure's E4c-n set, which used to be over $300. And these have got a built-in remote and mic. Yet they're only $79. The first iPod earbuds that don't suck—amazing. Not so amazing: It appears that their remote and mic only work with the iPods launched today.

I guess we will have to wait for a review, or until someone actually tests them.
form what I have been reading, you are paying allot for the apple logo.

I know that on my 2G Nano, the problem with sound quality isn't the headphones, it's the internal amp of the iPod itself. Even the best headphones can't fix that.

I wonder if the newer iPods/iPhones have better amps built in..

The touch got quite the upgrade, i was impressed with that.
These changes were all pretty much expected though, I was just hoping for a 4gb Shuffle. I wish the pricing was a tad closer to the canadian pricing though, but i will probably be looking into a new nano.

Question: With the new iPhone update this Friday, will jailbreaking it now require me to jailbreak again?

Oh and what's the big deal about HD content? Why would anyone care on a 4" screen?

Only if you update to the new firmware. You'll have to jailbreak it again if you do.

just paid for the iphone 2.1 for touch update... we will see if it was worth it... but so far this genius thing has just tried to sell me shit haha

EDIT: itunes is backing up my whole entire ipod... this could take days, or at the very least make my laptop crash :nut:

the ipod nano gen4 is pretty ugly. no much new technology. same form as gen 2 just that it comes with more colours. people can live without the accelerometer. one good thing is that the price has dropped pretty drastically.

wonder if there is going to be a new iphone soon in the very near future

ituned doesn't back up the whole ipod. It just backs up settings. All media files are still "synch'd" so make sure you backup your mp3 collection!

Wasn't all of this on their website around 10PM last night? I watched the video on the iPod Touch last night...doesn't seem that great. They are also up on Futureshops website but they are pictureless. I was under the impression that it would be something else.

The 3G came out two months ago. Why would there be a new one?

The only change they would make is a 32GB version.

no it was backing up music too, took an hour and a half. BUT now it says there is an error, and it can not restore any of it, file missing? wtf! AND it will not even load anything from itunes! i am pissed

3G was just an improvement of the 2G version. There isnt much of an improvement with the 3G just that its bigger in size.
it seems like apple wants a piece of the telecom pie and it makes sense that they will want a larger piece of market share in cellphone market
but maybe the arrival of new phones will not be that soon i guess.

If you want to keep your iphone in the same state as previous version... I just updated to 2.0.2...once updated Itunes asked me to start a new Iphone or to Restore original iphone.

By restoring it(not to confuse this with firmware restore) it saves your notes, contacts, recent calls, previous browsing history, cookies, wallpaper, stocks, wifi connection history. However it doesnt save settings / custom SB settings or apps. As mentioned for music and video, just keep it synced so you can load it back up.

Yeah, GPS, 3G functionality and a touch-screen that is separate from the glass so if you break it you're only out $20 in a small piece of glass, that's all useless. Let's focus only on the fact that it is slightly larger.

Having never had a 2G, and coming from very small flip phones, I don't find the 3G to be obtrusively large or cause any problems.
