I've seen several, separate CDN soldiers in downtown Calgary today, but I don't see any displayed ranks.

When I was in, ranks were a necessary part of the Uniform, except for certain field situations.

Can anyone offer insight?

I saw them yesterday and was wondering what was going on. Let me know if you find out!

Possibly related, yesterday here in Edmonton my wife saw a jet being escorted into Edmonton International Airport by two CF-18s.

Update: Aparrently the rank locations have moved as of the "new" uniforms.

Still doesn't account for the soldiers downtown.

Their presence is slightly creepy.

Soldiers of Fitness?

Maybe they're out looking for fatties to bust into shape?

Oh dear God, the Liberals were actually right about Harper's hidden agenda!

"Do you want to see soldiers.....with guns.....in our streets?"

My best guess would be that it has something to do with the fact that we lost a Calgarian soldier last week, his body was brought home and the funeral preparations are getting ready to happen.

If it's a Private, they may have no display of rank, ie: no chevrons.

Yeah, the rank on the shoulders I always thought was a bad idea. It tells enemy snipers who to shoot for in the field!

Could the soliders downtown have been from an excerise out of the Mewata Armory?

I think this is the most feasible explanation.

Likely, they're expecting a pretty large crowd from what I understand. However, the funeral isn't until Monday, so I'm not sure what they're doing here already.
On a side note, Chad Horn was a good friend of mine. He was a good soldier and an even better human being. He will be missed.

^^ Calgary doesn't have military funerals very often, they likely would need quite a bit of rehursal/planning/set up to accomodate the crowd and put on a memorial fitting of the man. His body was brought back to canada yesterday if I read correctly, so maybe they're here to receive his casket from the east? :dunno:

I've been hearing some crazy jets the last 48 hours, shaking buildings I'm in.
