View Full Version : End of season cruise planning thread

So since no one has started this thread yet I figured I'd get the ball rolling considering we're almost done for the year!

So the date would be a Sunday in usual beyond.ca fashion. Dates would be the following.

Sept 21st
Sept 28th
Oct 5th

Last year we did it on the 16th of September, so we should try and get this on the go asap.

Vote for the date you want and post suggestions for the cruise. I think we might have a few ideas as far as cruises go. We could always do Banff again or even take over Drumheller for a 2nd time. Drumheller would be fun IMO so that's my vote for location.

We'll make an official thread after a few days or so of voting and we decide on a location based on your suggestions.

Thanks guys!!!

my vote = earlier is better... the weather isnt getting any warmer...

and in terms of location, i really dont care, lets just try to keep the pace reasonable and safe and have a good time.

I say Banff. Always a nice spot to take pics. I'll also hopefully be bringing my friend Danielle along since I only know a handful of beyonders

earlier the better for sure!

09-10-2008, 10:03 AM
Agreed, the earlier the better. The banff cruise was alot of fun, wouldn't mind doing either that or the drumheller cruise. The drumheller drive sounds like alot of fun.

EM1FTW

i kind of think we should go somewhere new.
but banff is alot of fun

I would actually be up for a ride but I don't know anyone. I planned on doing the spring cruise but missed it.

I think the road to Drumheller is still torn up. Chateau.. Lake Louise... only thing that sucks is that its to far to go there and back on a tank of gas and theyres no 94 octane in the area. :(

ekguy
09-10-2008, 10:44 AM
banff should be doable on a tank of gas I'm sure...Wouldn't it? or are MR-2's notorious gas guzzlers?? I dunno how far the Legend will go on a tank since my brother never went further than Chinook Center since he got it. And i haven't insured it yet....

EM1FTW
09-10-2008, 10:49 AM
banff is very easily done on one tank of gas.
and they have good gas stations there too

oh yah I can get to banff and back on a tank for sure.. i was talking Lake Louise.. cant do that on a tank and I need 94 octane and there is none of that out there. :(

Load up a jerrycan sir!

I enjoyed the Banff cruise a lot. I wouldn't mind doing that again. Tonnes of parking at Cascade Pond too.

I'm always down to let someone sit passenger in my car. So pm me.

Also Ryan I have a trunk so I could fit a couple small jerry cans in there for you.

Im down for the 21st. Banff sounds decent.

09-10-2008, 12:19 PM
I would be done for the 21st, as who knows what it will be like the later we were to wait. I even have a liscence plate this time to participate in the cruise.

djayz
09-10-2008, 12:32 PM
21st for sure, any longer and this cruise will be a winter beater cruise.

I'd be up for another trip to drumheller as the roads going were quite fun but picture wise and stuff to do sucks.

Banff is fun but its getting boring going on the same roads over and over again, is there any alternative routes to banff?

dj_honda
09-10-2008, 12:58 PM
I went to Drumhller a few weeks ago. If you guys are going the TransCanada to whatever highway route (I forget), the road is torn up and I regretted taking my civic on that road. So I would suggest you guys try the other route (QEII through Beiseker?) if its not torn up as well...

09-10-2008, 01:30 PM
What's the average speeds you guys cruise at?
Can I put my pow-pow-powerwheels in the back of someone's car? It doesn't go over 12km/hr and has a range of 800 meters.

I like having suspension, so deerfoots out. What about red deer or sylvan? or go south..

ekguy
09-10-2008, 02:10 PM
So what will be the locations then? I'm up for Banff but some aren't. What other cruise options do we have? Maybe Sylvan Lake??? Not too far of a drive either.

djayz
09-10-2008, 02:14 PM
sylvan lake would be good but then again we will need to locate some gas station selling 94 octane since its a little longer than the banff cruise...

ekguy
09-10-2008, 02:16 PM
Well someone get on that then. On such a busy highway I'm sure there would be. Then again isn't it like a few minutes from Red Deer anyways?

ekguy
09-10-2008, 02:19 PM
just google maped it. It's so close to Red Deer we should be able to go straight there, have the high octane needing cars gas up then turn the cruise around to Sylvan Lake. Should be some nice photo ops there and a nice highway there as well.

I still want Banff myself since I love the drive there. But alot of people want other suggestions.

djayz
09-10-2008, 02:19 PM
40km more than banff from city center.

you can pass through red deer or take a road around red deer to get to sylvan lake so those who need 94 can probably get some in red deer...now can anyone confirm that red deer has 94 haha

The ProjectTechnik guys were able to reserve a meeting spot for Sylvan Lake. Someone should look into that.

ekguy
09-10-2008, 02:44 PM
Well at some point either a consensus on here will have to be made and a place chosen or we start a poll on another thread for location. Then merge the 2 after a certain date or something.

I'm down for whenever but I was just on the Husky website and it says that there is no Husky station in Red Deer with 94. Can anyone confirm this?
Here's the link to the husky site...

It's too close haha unless theres an extended route to go there.
Those who live in the deep SW won't have much of a cruise going down 22x for 10 minutes.

It took us 20 minutes to get from elbow falls to evergreen last time I was there so not much of a cruise especially with our big turn outs.

It's supposed to be a 45 minute drive from Calgary to elbow falls, 30 mins, sure, but not 10 minutes. Last time we went we met near the famous players movie theatre and then drove out as a group, was a pretty good cruise IMO.

45 minutes isn't bad at all. Famous players would be the one at the corner of macleod and 162nd correct?

I'm down. hangover recovery day, may as well fit in a cruise in the mix.

I'd say we do highway 1A. Between Banff and Lake Louise. Some parts were freshly paved so its like a racetrack at parts...abiet one with a 60kph speed limit. :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

Still incredibly beautiful and very scenic. Or we can head straight west of Turner Valley, It takes us to a beautiful park (deep in Kananaskis country) that we can have a fire and BBQ. Absolutely fantastic drive. I was just there a week ago on my bike, some of the leaves are JUST starting to turn, so it should be very picturesque (SP) by the time the 21st rolls around.

Please no rides out to Red Deer or Drumheller. They are extremely boring, and not at all fun. Frankly I'd rather not go then waste the gas and the KM's heading out to either as I've done that before and they're never fun at all.
I'm not trying to sound like a party pooper, but I think there are MANY better places to go then either Red Deer or Drumheller, honestly....

Sept 1 is the only date that works for me.

Out of town the weekend of the 27-28th.

Car will be parked by October.

Canmorite
09-13-2008, 09:07 PM
1A to Canmore then 1 to Banff is a fun road. 1A can be a bit rough but still way more corners then the big wide #1.

1A to Lake Louise is wicked, but you can stop at Johnston's Canyon (About half way) and grab food/ice cream (Open till Oct. 12). Tons of room for parking, and it should be a bet quieter because it isn't main tourist season.

It'd be cool to go on my first Beyond cruise but I don't know any one here so I guess I could bring someone along.

Also, the more scenic the better. Red Deer's not very scenic... Unless you like Winners. :)

Sooner the better. It's getting cold out there.

Wait a minute... I have a stock car. DAMN IT. :banghead:

Lol noone said you can't come and have fun.

i agree with Graham_A_M... we could take the route hes speaking of (it is indeed beautiful) then go somewhere in banff or have a BBQ in a park or something.

actually speed limit's 80 in most with 70 in some, the 60 kph's are only advised speeds, but are not the actual limit speeds, meaning you can take it at 60, but even if you're going faster, until you cross the speed limit you can't get in trouble. They just post those up so people don't take those turns at or above speed limit and crash their cars.

And besides, how many people here would seriously obey the rules when it comes to a fun winding road?:D
