Hello,
so I just activated a new blackberry bold. How do I know if I got a 3G sim card? I find my internet connection kinda slow. lol
if I have 3G on the screen that means my sim card is 3G?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

As far as I know, theres no such thing as a "3g simcard". I've been using the same simcard for the last 6 years and get great data speeds.

the simcard doesn't matter, if it says 3g on your screen, then you're on 3g.

wrong....there is a newer card that you have to use that will work with 3G. a newer card, not a new card. there are non-3g sim cards, probably 6 years(guessing) or older, not too sure but there are some. so not all older sim cards will give you 3G data speeds, but i'm sure 95% of them will.

tell that to my 6+year old sim card.

if it says 3g on the phone, he's on 3g, so it's obviously compatible, it just sounds like he's expecting too much from 3g

Yea when I upgraded to the bold the rep checked to make sure my sim card was at least a "4000" series. Not really sure why but he said it needed to be.

hmm if it says 3G on the phone, it means there are 3G signal available at his location.

On my old K850i, I have the option to choice between:
3G + GSM
GSM Only

I always set it to GSM only, however, whenever I am in a 3G signal area, it will display a "G" when there is 3G signal available, and "E" when no 3G signal is available and only EDGE is available.

I have the bold and had nothing but issues until I upgraded to the sim that came with the phone, they say it is a high speed sim, I dont care what its called, but it did help with the speed (very little but noticable) as well my reception improved 10 fold, no problems in the elevators at work. But I believe my sim was old as hell

I sure hope I have a 3G simcard! i'm going to call rogers now.
how can we check if we have the "4000" series?

so are all the new simcard 3G now?

agree with you that if it says 3g, he's on 3g, but don't tell everyone the sim card doesnt matter, when in fact it actually does. don't tell me that a 15 year old sim card is the same as a new one.
