Recently the speedometer in my integra has shit the bed. Everything else works ( gas, temp, rpm, etc..) except the speedo trip meter and odometer. DJ_honda and I tried to fix it buy swapping it in with a new cluster, and it didn't seem to fix the problem. The VSS doesn't look bad ( but who knows) I think it may be to do with wiring.

If anyone else has had this problem in there teg and found a cure, please pm or post some relevant stuff.

I did a few searches didn't come up with much:confused:

Check No. 24 fuse under the dash. If that's okay, most likely the VSS or the connections.

To check connection, remove the plug from the VSS.

Use a multimeter.

Black = Should have continuity to chassic ground.

Black/yellow = W/ Ignition On = 12V or so.

Orange = W/ Ignition On = 5V.

If it checks out ok, your wiring is good.

Re-Connect plug to VSS.

Remove VSS.

Probe the orange wire with multimeter. Black multimeter lead to chassis ground. Red to orange wire )while it's connected to the VSS).

Spin the VSS drive, voltage should pulsate between 0 to 10V.

thanks for the input. should be looking into it tmrw.

and all the lights went out in the dash as well. but that could be jsut a missed connection.. no driving tonight:(

In that case check No. 16 fuse too.

how do you check if the fuse's are fucked, I looked msot look fine. but is there more to it?

you can do a continuity test with a multimeter. or hold them up to a bright light.

When it was working was it working fine or would it cut out?

Not to sure, came like that..

Brought it over to Dj_honda's again to try and fix it. We took out the VSS and it seemed completely fine, but we cleaned it just cause. looked over the fuse again, seemed fine. I swapped ECU's to see if it was my ecu, wasn't the ecu. so srsly WTF. I am going to get my buddy to use his multimeter skills on it and then if that fails, I'm going to try swapping VSS's with his GSR.

..hopefully that works:banghead:

Thats pretty weird. Did the original owner tell you anything about it? How it stopped working or anything?

He claimed it was wiring and basically that was that. I'll be checking the wiring tmrw with a friend. if it doesn't check one.. anyone ever rewired a VSS?

If you have to re-run new wire, it shouldn't be hard. You already know how to remove the cluster, so you can run it straight to it. The VSS is basically just a switch. It takes your battery voltage, anywhere from 12-14 volts. And the turning action of the VSS turns the voltage into pulsating DC to give you your 0 to 10 volt pulse via the orange wire.

Still can't figure it out. Anyone who thinks they can fix this. I will pay! haha
