When you are at WOT producing full boost... is it normal for turbo and/or supercharged engines to blow out a bit or moderate amount of black smoke? On my 1.8T... at WOT producing full boost... there have been reports from my friends driving behind me that I am indeed producing a bit of black smoke -- is this normal? Should I be worried?!

Thanks for the help gents! :)

That just means the car is running rich and safe!

Black smoke == fuel == rich == safe. Maybe not optimal, but definately safe. Strange that a stock car that meets strict emissions standards would run that rich to produce black smoke out the exhaust though...

Thanks for the help... I was worried... but now I understand!

Thanks! :)

Your car is pretty much stock, isn't it? Because like Rage said, it is kinda odd for a pretty mcuh stock car to run rich. :dunno:

I have a boost gauge and a high performance K&N airfilter in regards to engine mods...

I'm not worried... :)

Could be the motor breaking in too. If it doesn't go away by your next service get them to check it out.

Personally, I'd get it checked out... a stock engine should *not* run an A/F ratio that creates black smoke.

does that actually work i've heard of it before but wasnt sure
i've also heard on turbo cars with no cats and a BOV will produce a good flame because the BOV tricks the air sensor into injecting excess fuel thus creating flames

I personally think this would be pimp:bigpimp: :bigpimp:

If by pimp you mean really expensive because you end up going through turbos and exhausts systems really quickly, then yeah that would be pimp.

Fluidic - I've seen the symptoms you describe on turbo cars but usually only on cars that are a bit older. I don't think you should worry about it.

BTW, what kind of gas (octane) do you put in your ride?
