Shake it really hard for a few minutes and then leave it an hour to settle.

If it's turned blue in the face after that hour of settling - it's worked and it won't bother you much anymore.

kung fu chop on the neck(like you see in movies). Hit hard enough so the baby will pass out. Good for little ones with temper tanrums.

I don't give a shit about what the dickTionary says...

It's DUCT tape...since the tape is used to attach and mend ducting.

Ducks don't use tape, eeeeeeediots!!!

Duct tape is the correct description.
Duck tape refers to the most popular brand name.

It's like calling paper tissue Kleenex.

And my daughter has that same duck.

Duck refers to the fabric backing of the tape, similar to cotton duck or canvas.

Guys, look it up on Wikipedia. The original usage of the tape was for ammo boxes in the war, they'd seal them up and waterproof them with the tape. The water would slide right off like a duck's back, labeling it Duck Tape. After the war the manufacturers needed a reason to keep selling it so they marketed it to duct workers where it eventually got its silver colour and more commonly known as Duct Tape. The name Duct Tape was then adopted by the (or maybe a different) manufacturer.

Why don't you look it up on Wikipedia:

One view[13][14] is that it was called "duck tape" by WWII soldiers because it was made from cotton duck, from which their tents, tarpaulins, ponchos and other equipment were made. The word "duck" was commonly used for camping equipment fabrics until synthetics replaced cotton. Some suggest that the waterproof quality of the tape contributed to the name, by analogy to the water-shedding quality of a duck's plumage.

The other view is that "duct tape" is the original term, since there are many documented uses of that term which pre-date all documented uses of the term "duck tape" for the adhesive-backed product, and that there is no written evidence supporting the WWII story. Some proponents of this view accept the idea that there was an earlier non-adhesive "duck tape", but claim that people have just confused the similar pronunciation of two similar but unrelated products through the process of elision, and that the rest of the "duck" etymology is folklore or fabrication. This view was summarized most notably in a Boston Globe article by etymologist Jan Freeman, also in March of 2003.

You can't charge others to "look it up", then give what you say is the actual origin, and then tack an escape clause to the end of your post to excuse youself from verifying your information. Don't challenge the intellectual curiosity of other people when you're too lazy to look it up yourself.

"Geeze guys, look it up!This [insert conjecture here] is where it came from."
"I did look it up, and that's not actually correct."

"Yeah, well, I told you to look it up. I didn't say I did."

"Thanks Tips."
