Hi,

I was playing with an NSX comptech super charger.....
is it normal for the supercharger to sound like a punch of chains being chucked around at Idle......

Any Help would be appreciated

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that is not normal, have you checked the fins in the supercharger to see if they are damaged?

Sounds like bearing failure or physical damage to the rotor assemblies.

that's what I thought...I opened it up and everything looks fine..

went on NSX prime and they are telling me it is normal..

Not sure what to think

Do you have a picture of the unit or one similar?

Oh that's is a nice blower. I thought they would have used an Eaton. So that is either a Lysholm or Kenne Bell core mattering on the L's of displacement. I do know that you are suppose to change the supercharger oil once every year. You may want to check if your unit even has any oil in it!

I believe I read somewhere that this is a whipple unit pushing about 6psi.

I would also recommend checking the oil but the sound still does not seem normal.

The superchargers I have seen use they're own oil source and require special supercharge oil (stock units on anyways).

So I called Comptech and checked with Bobby at Tuner works and apparently that is the noise they make.....Sounds Like crap but thats what they do at Idle go figure.

Also Yes it has its own dip stick and takes 20W50

it's a good thing these things have a reputation for being well built because by the sound it sounds like it is dying.
