1. What kind of engine oil I have to used? Manual recommends Honda Motor oil 5W-20. Is it necessary to used their oil or I can just buy other oil. Any recommendations what to buy?

2. How often do I change transmission fluid? Any recommendations what kind of fluid to use?

3. What other parts or oil or anything that needs to be changed or maintained frequently?

4. On average, how many times to change tires and batteries annually? What other things to change annually?

5. Aside from oil change and factory recommended maintenance, what are the other maintenance the needed to be done?

6. I think type E maintenance is coming up (Next 5 months) for my CRV, how much does it costs based on your experience?

Anything that would help me operate my vehicle properly and make it last longer is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Good questions - First off, try to find a CRV forum which can answer your questions better and find particular problems with your year vehicle, it can save you many headaches in the future.

1. You do not need to use Honda Motor Oil (which is just rebranded Petro Canada Oil), wait for a sale and pick up a good synthetic every couple of months from Walmart (Currently Pennzoil Platinum is going for $22), or Canadian Tire.

2. I believe its every 80,000k, I have heard good things about high quality synthetic transmission fluids such as those made by Mobil 1 and Redline. Its good, cheap preventative maintain ace.

Picked myself up an 91 civic hatch SE for $150 last week off a friend of a friend hahah. Swapped a new battery in, and put my winter tires on... now I'm good to go for winter.

Once I pay off my credit card bills from my Vegas trip my project car will get more attention.

Sounds like a pretty solid plan, can't go wrong with starting with the motor. Are you thinking about sticking to N/A mods or going for FI? Those are fun cars to play around with fur sure, I really like how they handle.

Have to agree with you... the only car i would buy after the ep3 type R would be the new CRZ love the way they look other then that the new type R is ugly and i hate the way the new SI look/drive

Figured I should introduce myself here. I'm a reformed muscle car owner who happened to end up in an 09 Si due to a random test drive @ T&T. Loving this little car. Vtec is addictive haha..and 10.5 L/100 kms 100% rush hour while hitting redline 5-10 times per day on average is really economical!

^^ nice ride.

A race header and bolt ons really wake the k20 up.

Otherwise checkout kmod short and long block crate engines. Can have an oem Honda part built 11:1 k24 for 220whp and 180wtq (give or take some) In a 2800lb car and 4.785 gearing stock it flys.

Hallowed_point

Thanks Darkane. I really don't want to do a cat delete though. Getting too old for that stench everyday. I'll checkout kmod. This is probably one of the slowest cars I've owned numbers wise, but it doesn't feel that slow if that makes sense. It's very lively and eager to rev which is totally different than what I'm used to. I just can't get over how efficient it is...driving my stang like this leads to 300 km tanks of gas!!

Anyone here own a Skunk2 composite CAI for an 06-11 Si? Or any Civic I guess. It seems to be a really nice unit. You also don't need a battery relocate due to the design. $400 is pretty spendy for an air intake but I don't want any cheap ebay stuff on this car.

Nice ride!!! I had a FA5 before it was written off due to hail. I just picked up a 05 DC5.

I recall a while back someone posted some information regarding it is more fuel economical for K20 to cruise at ~3000 rpm than the traditional <3000 rpm. What was the reason behind that?

I recall a while back someone posted some information regarding it is more fuel economical for K20 to cruise at ~3000 rpm than the traditional <3000 rpm. What was the reason behind that?

I know for a fact that I can get 34.5 mpg highway with this car. Logged my mileage from Calgary to Kelowna. Even with quite a few low gear pulls. It's unbelievable really. It does seem to do better at 3000 rpm. Below that, and it almost feels as though it's "lugging" wheres da torque ;)

Anyways, not sure if I'll do a crate motor swap. Although, I could probably get a good price for my low km K20Z3 :dunno:

I have that.... I think I showed you it at autox lol.

Right! :banghead: How was the install? Did you have to remove the bumper? Perceived gains or just better intake sound?

Because Dov Charney, American Apparal former CEO is Eric Charney's Dad/relative (I think?) so he thinks he's special.

He IS special, but not in the way he thinks he is.

I bought an S2000 a couple months ago and I am in love. I've owned lots of sports cars the last few years (2 Miatas, BRZ, 135i, stage 2 WRX, modestly modified 180SX) and something about the whole package of the S2000 just works so much better together than those cars do, I don't find myself wanting to modify it much at all.

Also I kinda miss my RT4WD I had :(

Sure but it's just stock with some crap aftermarket wheels that are being replaced by stock wheels soon.

I feel the same way about my Si. I've had it since May and haven't modded a thing. I get the itch now and then to do the CAI/Hondata reflash but I have a lot of fun with it as is.

Like you say, the total package/sum of parts is pretty amazing stock for what the car cost. It reminds me of a 4 wheel sport bike with the agile handling and 8500 rpm fuel cut.

I can't get over how consistent the fuel economy is. The worst it will get is just over 10 L/100 kms and that is 100% stop and go city driving it hard. On my last trip to Vancouver Island, I managed to get around 35 mpg.

Yikes turning into a Honda fan boy :banghead:

Stage 2 is to visit RCTS or Toma if he's around for a vtec window reflash.

I guess all the cars at my house at Hondas these days. Fuck yeah for the 2012 Odyssey and 2010 Fit.

Performance mods on both cars = Carseats and spilled snacks.

It makes it so much more enjoyable to hang onto 2nd gear hitting 60 mph. Plus highway passing is easier. I'd be shocked if it was over 180-190 on Toma's dyno. But it's more fun than it should be.
