I've heard from a number of people with Dakine backpacks that their backs actually started hurting after awhile. I myself have a Targus backpack that holds up to whatever weight I throw at it, including my laptop, without hurting my back (and I fall into one of the 1 in 3 people that have bad backs category). It's got its own laptop padded section in the back with extra thick shoulder pads and a belt strap. The only thing I don't like about it though is that the thicker shoulder pads makes my pits sweat more if I've been wearing the backpack for long. :(

I love my Dakine backpack. I picked it up at the sports store in North Hill mall. If you show your SAIT id, you get 10% (??) off.

When I went to sait I went to look for good bag. I found that Heys makes good bags.

http://shop.heys.ca/SearchResults.asp?Cat=22

Theres lots of padding for the laptop.
Seperate compartment for the laptop and textbooks (goes into the side of the bag)
Plus the shoulder straps doesn't really hurt unless you really pack in your textbooks in there which i dont recommend.

It lasted me my whole program at sait, which is 2 years.

I actually just bought this backpack from spareparts a week ago for $50 . It's really comfortable and it can actually hold a lot of shit (huge binder w/ a couple textbooks). I've also found it to be very light.

Dakine back packs are the shit.

I've come down on mine with a bunch of crap in it at like full speed snowboarding (250lbs) and it didnt even phase the thing.

Mine has a mesh thing that can hold my laptop. West 49 an dthe source and mission also sell them.

O'gio makes a better bag, you can also get them at Spareparts. Dakine is still pretty good though.
