For the math types....

5c = 10$ savings /200L fuel
8.5c = 17$ savings /200L fuel

Gas is plenty cheap (to produce). Bottom end consumers don't see those prices though.

kinda off topic but now that I own a gas guzzler, which gas company/station has the best rewards program? I need to save on gas as much as possible!

15,000 points to save $10. The deal isn't that great.

For 1,000 points you can get a bottle of pop that sells for $1.79 normally (15,000 points = $26.85).

Shell/BMO

http://www3.bmo.com/mosaik/perform_builder_start?PREBUILT=PREADULTR&&PUID=768

1% cash back on all purchases + 2% back on Shell gas + Airmiles (on gas purchase only)

Cheapest Shell station is at centre st N by Mcknight which gives 5.5c off.

That's the best deal consider the quality of gas you get. Cold hard cash, none of the shady point systems.

To get the 2% back you need to get the card with a $49/year fee

Which could pay off, but they'll get you somewhere no matter what.

First of all, to offset that fee, you'll probably have to spend at least $2500 a year on fuel. If you spend less than that, it probably doesn't help you.

go to co-op...

Gave back almost 14cents per litre for 07... They give cash back not points!

petro gas is terrible fuel.. and their points take forever to gain.. ive been saving mine for years.. i think I'm up to 245000 which is enough for a plan ticket... took tens if not hundreds of thousands in gas purchases to gain however.

Just sign up for the speedpass with Esso and you will always get $0.05 off.

Plus you get bonus aeroplan miles or esso points for filling up.

It's only until recently that they received a Tier 1 rating, their 91 octane just doesnt perform like other 91 octanes out there. It could be all psychological but I always get terrible mileage, performance, with petro.

i noticed the opposite with petro recently -

i would always go fill up on esso and i would get 540 km per tank

now that i use petro i get 600 + driving the same style.

My personal subjective opinion only, it seems my car just feels like it idles a little smoother when using Shell V-Power as opposed to Petro's 91. :dunno:

I've been doing a little testing here in NS recently. I was getting 15-16 mpg on a level road with cruise set at 100.. I filled up at ultramar and have been watching my mpg die off the last couple of days, so today I had enough when it hit 11-12mpg. I went and threw 1/4tank of shell premium on top of it, and it went right back to 16/16.5 mpg within 3 or 4 mins of putting the shell in..

And I'm trying to make it as equal as I can, similar days, flat road, cruise at 100 with all windows up. Theres no denying the shell brought it right back.

Point systems should only be used when you work for someone that buys everything.
