I've been meaning to post this a while ago, but does anyone know why they decided to pave the strip of highway 2 in between airdrie and calgary with the most rough, coarse, road-noise producing, obnoxious stuff they could find???

They did it just a while back and I drive it everyday going to work and the only things i could come up with were possily to:
1. save money and cheap out on the paving process
2. test a new type of road for winter conditions on highway 2
3. irritate all the drivers just for fun and wear down their tires

anyone have the info on it?
:dunno:

Chip-seal coating involves putting a layer of rock chips and liquid asphalt on top of the road surface. The coating provides better traction for motorists and also protects the road infrastructure.

I believe its a seal or coating of some sort that they use on roads that are aging but not yet damaged enough to repair. Its meant to extend the life of the surface so they don't have to repave it again as soon. They did something similar to the street in front of my house a couple years ago and left a nice brochure explaining something like that. It wears down and smooths out eventually.

after putting me through two more sets of tires:eek:

i guess that answers my question thanks for the info guys

You've replaced 2 sets of tires and they just paved this? Hmmm you either buy mexican tires, they pave the road with adamandium shards or you are exaggerating.

They did the same with Highway 22 between Bragg Creek and Highway 8 a couple years ago. The road noise is astounding with chip sealing, but I do have to admit it makes it harder for snow to accumulate (in the early stages of a snowfall).
