He wasnt running that night, just there watching..
But i can tell you from having my own twin charged car running the times that you should be with the power you have is alot harder to do just because of traction... 305whp and 315lbs.tq in a 2600lbs car and the best I can get is a 13.5 @109mph. Slicks are definatly needed to get full potential of a set up like this.

Im pretty sure he was doing 14's last time he went for the same reason, traction issues...

I havent heard the full story yet. Just talked to my buddy who talked to him the night before last. IM guessing because it was twin boosted. Just got to hot and caught fire. The teg is a write off.

there is no way it was caused from being twin charged.. I have been twin charged for 3years now in my daily driver and mine hasnt burnt down. But that does suck for him

Just talked to his buddy again. He was not sure what caused the fire exactly. But he was driving it when it happened. Car is a write off.

The fire must've been pretty bad to be a write off. Was it just the engine? Hope he's alright. I haven't talked to him in months.

This is how it was explained to me:
He heard some noises that sounded like an electrical short, and unfortunately didn't think much of it at the time. Shortly thereafter his car started running rich (or smelling of gas?) and bogging, then smoke started to come from the hood.. He pulled over, and by that time flames had engulfed the engine bay. Fire department came and put it out.

Car is a write-off apparently because of the fire damage to the engine compartment, but besides that the car appeared ok. Alkert is fine, disappointed but fine.

IMO The fire was probably caused by an electrical short and all the clutter in his engine bay... it sounds like he got away with less damage than most engine fires and hopefully will be able to salvage some of his parts he put into the car.

twin turbo a 4cyl 2.4L engine?
As it is this set up was just more or less for fun...had the s/cer kit which I could only get 230whp max out of it and didnt feel like pulling all the little part of the s/c'er kit off so i built a turbo kit and put it on and just fed it into the s/c'er.. plus alot of parts on the s/c'er kit made it easier to add the turbo on.

Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it can't happen ;)

Glad he's ok, too bad about the teg.

True. Just the chances of it happening because he had both on are slim.. I would have to guess either electricle short which has been said or it could have been something like oil leaking on to the turbo or a fuel leak.. that kind of a thing :dunno:

It's never too cheap to have one of these in the car

http://www.speedracer.ca/forum/index.php/topic,444.0.html

Surprisingly it's only around $350. Cheap insurance IMO.

I agree.. :P you just will want to make sure you can get out before you pull that lol... I remember when I was racing formula fords it was such a squeez to get in, I was worried if i ever had to use it the car would be burnt down before i could pull it since it took so long to get out. that or if i paniced and pulled it there would be no way i could get out in time and i would be a crispy criter
