The last NSX, discontinued in 2005, was branded as both a Honda and an Acura, depending upon the market it was sold in. That could change for the next-generation NSX, however, as Acura may be seeking to protect the brand identity of the halo sports car, and thereby its ability to charge a premium price. An unfortunate side effect for much of the world, however, is that the car would not be sold in markets where Acura doesn't do business.

I'm all for the idea as long as they don't somehow slap that POS grille on.

Finally. Acura is taking hints that they can never be rebadged Hondas.

A bold move, but very important for brand identity. I think it's a smart choice in the long run, but I wonder how it will affect their short-term sales figures.

They killed the NSX as far as Im concerned. Wouldnt matter if they badged it as a Kia.

Smart move and I can't wait to see them!

A year ago, I wished it looked more like the old NSX too but it doesn't look like it's going to so my advice is.... GET OVER IT.

Whatever it looks like --- fact is nobody knows exactly --- this is going to be the new flagship sports coupe for Acura. I'm pretty sure it's going to be very sweet. I can't wait to see how they apply the shield-grille to this model.

It's about time Honda got it's head out of it's ass and allowed Acura to succeed a little

5.5L V10, 600+HP and 433Tq
$160,000
7:37 on its first attempt around the Nürburgring?

Impressive, but a little overpriced in my opinion. If this is what it's going to look like, it could use some work.

I hope it doesn't end up being 160k... I'd never pay that much for a Honda.

Wow, nice pic find! Those were unexpected.

The front pic looks weird for some reason BUT the rear angle pic is SWEET --- still just a concept though.

Interesting, I can't see past the exterior of this concept car... I guess being spectacular and innovative is solely dependant on a cars exterior...

:dunno:

That's a poor attempt to copy the Aston.

Not worth $160K. I rather have an R8 for that price.

The shorter answer would be where do they do have Acura. Started out only in USA, Canada and HK. Mexico in 2004, China 2006, Russia at the end of 2008. And as stated in Japan, in 2010.

Japan doesn't have Acura, the sell the Integra as a Honda Integra and the Honda NSX. Plus places like the USA don't have all the Acura models like the EL, they just have limited vehicles.

For $160,000, it's really gotta not only meet, but EXCEED all expectations put on it.

Maybe the NSX's launch control will be covered under warranty?

I think they should've kept the mid-engine idea instead of a front mount. I loved the old NSX cause its mid-engine.

was just going to post something like this...if its not MR it doesn't really have anything "NSX" going for it...sure it can be acura's new flagship, but to name it NSX without the engine behind the driver is kinda lame

Its not mid-engine... wtf!? That is pretty much the only thing that made the original worth buying. That and its exotic car looks, which go hand in hand with midengine design. (Except for the Fiero/MR2)

Now its got a front engine configuration, and fairly pedestrian looks... Not too impressed...

yea that's why they should just make it a new model all together. If it's not Mid-engine, it's not an NSX... Plain and simple.

http://www.motorauthority.com/honda-cancels-development-of-v10-powered-nsx-successor.html

Honda cancels development of V10-powered NSX successor

Amid the announcement of its third profit warning of the year, Honda has confirmed that it has canceled plans for the launch of a successor to the NSX supercar. The new V10-powered model was expected to arrive in the United States next year as an Acura, but sadly all development work on the car has come to an end.

Honda CEO Takeo Fukui confirmed the plan in his end of year speech, saying that all development of the car would cease. Fukui also revealed that plans to introduce the Acura brand to Japan in 2010 have all been canned, reports Automotive News.

The news comes less than two weeks after Honda announced that it planned to pull out of next year’s Formula One season, citing financial constraints as the main reason.

Honda also announced today that it is lowering its annual operating profit forecast by 67% - its third profit warning of the year. The carmaker now expects its operating profit for the business year to March 31 to be ¥180 billion ($2 billion) - down 81% from last year.

Instead, Honda will focus on developing more fuel-efficient hybrid and diesel models, especially in the compact car segments. Plans for a minicar positioned below the Fit (Jazz) are still on track, as are plans for the CR-Z hybrid sports car.

I think Jeremy Clarkson said it best..."While everyone was worrying about Honda pulling out of Formula One, Honda has actually saved the world"---talking about the Honda FCX Clarity

I am surprised it took them this long to scrap the plan. Everyone brand is desperately trying to capture the econo-box segment, and Honda was still considering a 6 figure car. Any surprise that the LF-A keeps getting shelved.
