doesn't take bodywork experience to debadge
if it's not clipped into the trunk, then just take floss and simply go back and forth until it comes off. Remove the residue with some goo-gone or rubbing alcohol.

hopefully it wont be too faded underneath the lettering, it may end up looking like crap.

use a heat gun and some fishing line then it will come right off.

I pulled my friend's emblem off her Charger with my fingers while I was waiting for her to get out of the house, it's not hard. If you can't get it off on its own, just slide fishing line or floss behind it to cut the glue, then clean the excess with Goo Gone.

If it's faded then give your car a clay/wax and bring the colour of the rest of the car back to what it's like under the badge. But likely with a 2000 it should be okay and silver will almost for sure be fine.

You will be fine with silver...I debadged my 1990 (pearl black) benz and it went fine too....
