Can someone recommend a good breakfast place that has good food, atmosphere but not so busy? Somewhere central would be good. I am dropping my car off at Davenport Friday morning and then going with a gal friend for breakies and walks. Want a nice place that we can chat without people being too close to us.

I don't eat at empty restaurants... usually there is a reason they are empty.

Sometimes Nellie's empties a bit later in the day since people are mostly done getting breakfast. But don't know which one is closest to Davenport if any...

this is tough, 1) because calgary is [b[severely[/b] lacking in diners and cafes that serve good creative breakfasts (besides just eggs, meat, and potatoes) and 2) the few places that do exist get really really busy.

that said, are you going on a weekday or a weekend? you might have better luck on weekday. try diner deluxe or nellies

Your man-card is hereby revoked.

NO man should end a normal word with "ies".

Sorry I can't help with the breakfast part. Personally I like Phil's, but it's greasy.

We used to have the Manchester Deli deliver some to us at work every once in a while... greasy and cheap (eggs, bacon and toast for like $4.50) but it was delicious!

They certainly aren't central though, and I have no clue what the ambiance is like.

I didn't realize Calgary, Red Deer and Banff counted as making it a "national chain" :dunno:

The breakfast there is just like any, only I've never once had bad service there. They don't hire prissy little bitches that are only working because their rich daddies told them to. They hire old, professional waitress's who know how service is supposed to work.

Country Kitchen on Edmonton trail is pretty good, and unlike Diner Delux, you can usually get in on a weekend morning, however, the tables are close to one another and it's pretty busy on weekends.
Never been on a weekday, I work then.

there are much better breakfasts than omlettes or bacon and 2 eggs with hashbrowns....

also, keep in mind that food at chain restaurants in not made in house. instead, it's made in factories and heated and assembeled by some 20 year old drop out in the kitchen.

Cora's! Not sure how close it is from Davenport. Probably not close because it's near Mackenzie Lake.

I think they're only busy on the weekends.

you obviously have no idea what an awesome, unique/creative, indie cafe breakfast is. you must be from calgary (?). there are much better breakfasts than omlettes or bacon and 2 eggs with hashbrowns....

Yes I've been to most of the "indie" breakfast places in Calgary, Vancouver, and enjoyed some in Montreal, they're all overrated, and overpriced. When if comes to breakfast, I have simple tastes.

Plus you won't find a quiet corner in any of those "indie" places because they're all filled with un-employed "artists" drinking latte's, complaining about the world's unfairness, and wearing $300 jeans.

The new Stampede Casino had a wicked breakfast/brunch on the weekend, not sure what they do during the day though

the point i'm trying to make is that calgary has a very poor indie diner/cafe scene, and thus it's not a good city for expereincing great cafe breakfasts. as i said earlier in the thread, calgary really doesn't have a good breakfast scene. so if you've been to all of the independent breakfast places here and didn't like them, i don't blame you, because they suck for the most part.

also, note that 'indie' is short for 'independent,' meaning NOT A CHAIN. it has nothing to do with being alternative or counter culture... i mean the best, most expensive, and most exclusive restaurants in calgary are indie, but you don't see a bunch of hippies sitting in there

Galaxie Diner is great, and if you get there early it's not too busy.
