Now that I got your attention. :)

So im building an extension off of my desk. What wood would be best to use that wont splinter and looks clean?

Also im going to most likely buy from home depot or totem. I havent asked them yet , but im assuming they can cut what I need.

Sure, but it won't splinter and you'll have the most ballin' desk around. I suggest some braced supports though, since that shit weighs a bit more than your average pine board.

Your basic choices are regular pine/spruce, or pressure treated, or cedar.

If this is an extension to an existing deck, you'll pretty much have to use the same thing as the original deck is built with so that it'll match.
if it's painted, don't bother using anything more expensive than the regular pine/spruce, waste of money imho.

Both Rona and HD have some dimensional Fingerjoint pine planks that you could sand lightly and slather with varathane for a decent finish.
