Just picked up my new truck for work yesterday.

08 Dodge 3500 Cummins Turbo Diesel Mega Cab Dually

I'm using it for hauling a 28 ft Flat deck Gooseneck trailer and I got a few new toys for it on the way now too :)

Took it up to Banff today to get the first 500 miles on it for the initial break in period before I start hauling stuff come monday. Picked it up with 6 km's on it :D

nice! What are you planning on hauling on the trailer? Any plans for things like... the bullydog to go with the cummins? :bigpimp:

edit : just re-read and you said it was a work truck. Still, you can always say the bullydog can help improve fuel economy. ;)

I'll mostly be hauling spools of wire that will vary from 6-8000lbs around calgary, yeah im doing the RBP powdercoated black 4" exhaust, Bully Dog PMT, and an AFE stage 2 intake and a Banks intercooler, along with an upgraded tranny cooler. but as it stands this thing is a beast, alot of people dont like the 6.7l ctd over the 5.9 but... i gotta admit, for being a 1-ton truck, this thing flys like nobodies business, I drove to banff doing 120 sitting @ 1600 rpm the whole way @ 14.8~ Litres per 100km

i thought break in was suppose to be mixed driving not just straight highway?

anyways, that thing is huge! haha, when you say work truck is it your own company or someone else's? if you work for someone else that is a pretty cool boss to let you get some toys for a work truck!

Nice! (Well, sort of, it's still a dodge  )

Can't believe you're going to navigate the city streets with that beast hooked up to a 28ft trailer.

I did alot of city driving last night, then some highway today, I'm mixing it up a bit.

its for my own company, I started my own construction company a few months back, but I got a contract through family for the hauling the trailer, so it justifies me buying the truck/trailer. so I put the construction thing on hold, just a side job thing now.

and my whole family drives dodges, and my other black truck is a dodge and I love them all. but mind you I love all the superduties, I just prefer the dodge over the others.

You should measure it bumper to bumper. Mine with the 8ft box is just over 21ft.. haha.. Its best just to avoid tight spots.. I had it down 17th saturday night though when I passed thru calgary.

yeah I was already downtown with it, it's fine, its only 6" wider on each side than my other truck (I had cut out fender flares)i'll just never enter downtown with the gooseneck on lol.

oh that is probably the best idea ever... my old job required me to drive downtown into underground park aides in a 1500 with a 15ft trailer and it was INSANE!! so stressful haha

nice truck! Instead of the Bully Dog, check out the Smarty. Way better all around tuner, and stay away from Banks. One of the best sites for mod info: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/

I'm averaging just a bit more on the 6.0 gasser.. near 800kms on that amount though. I put 7000kms on in the last 2 weeks though. :(

hehe thanks Tom, just went to big dog performance and they are gonna set me up with a pretty bitchin package (stage 2 AFE intake, Fass Fuel/air/water seperator pump, Flo pro Turbo back exhaust w/ DPF delete 5"piping and he says it will be a nice growl, not an obnoxious diesel, EGR delete, Edge w/ attidue programmer) its pricey, but it will be so nice because im always goin up and down the highway to airdrie now.

Supa Dexta

yeah thats far.

black_radiation
10-09-2008, 09:17 AM
...do I detect a hint of sarcasm? lol, no of course its not far but im doing if 5 or 6 times a day, and if I keep it around 110 I should be getting some decent gas mileage, now I know the parts prices far outweigh how much money i'll spend in gas, but still, less stress on the truck if its not trying to fight to pull that load, also considering I keep everything tuned for tow, not performance. There was a guy @ BigDog with the same truck as me, just not a dually, who had the same package put on and with a 34 foot 5th wheel he was getting 25~ mpg on the highway. which is a far cry from my 13 that I'm getting now lol.

Supa Dexta
10-09-2008, 09:23 AM
I dont believe that for a second, the 25mpg loaded part. Maybe on the dash dispay after he climbed a hill and is coasting down the other side of it..

I called BS on it too, but Rob took me out to his truck and showed me the avg mpg (which on a dodge itsnt current, it just measures mileage travelled vs gas consumed) by all means, he could have cheated it, but who cares, even if I get an extra 5 mpg it helps, I'm more so looking for the power so I don't get bogged down trying to keep speed up when I'm loaded up, any extra mileage is just a bonus

Also... nothing new on the truck, Just installed my remote starter on it yesterday, just waiting for parts to come in. I bought smoked cab lights, smoked LED tail lights, smoked 3rd brake light, and smoked fender lights. I need some HID's for it, if anyone has a set of 9007 6000k I'd be happy to take em off your hands :)

well most of it was the job I was working at wasn't paying the bills I had, I didnt have bad credit or anything, just all my money was going to paying bills, but got all my debt paid off by basically eating bread and water and not wasting any money on going out, buying useless stuff etc. the usual things to save money where I could, sold extra shit I didnt use or didnt need. I started my own construction business and that was good until the market died off so I still do stuff on the side, ontop of the flat deck to keep up on stuff and just have a rainy day fund.

And no I havent installed Tc3's prize yet, he informed me he was getting a new work van and wanted the remote starter to go into that so I'm just waiting on him.

Damn, that's a beast of a truck. Maybe a little too much power for me. I had a '93 Bronco XLT so that was more than enough power. The new Dodges are really nice- I wouldn't necessarily need a 3500 dually with the Cummins because I really don't have that much to tow, but a 1500 Hemi is more up my alley. I was just talking about the new Ram on another thread, and I like the new bodywork a lot. About time a designer gave us dual pipes- they look sick

black_radiation
11-13-2008, 05:50 PM
lol thanks cappy, although I have to disagree with you on the new rams... I think they are hideous... less truck, more car is what they are going for... the new chevs have my eye for the new generation for trucks, im happy I got my 3500 before they changed it over to the new style.

I can see why you'd say that- I was pretty skeptical about the new suspension but it definitely pulls its own weight- I've been following the mini reality tv series Dodge is doing for the truck- Ram Challenge (http://ramchallenge.yahoo.com/index.html?pid=CWebPage&adid=RamChallengeMicrosite) and it can definitely hang. I'd be scared to do half that stuff with a rock crawler. I'd like to get in a dealer and test drive one for myself though to see how it rides

Hey nice truck!

I've got the same one.

Is yours a Laramie edition too?

2008 was the last year Dodge made the mega cab.

Mine is a 2007.

yeah mines 08 laramie, just put smoked cab lights, LED tails/3rd brake light, ordered HID's for it and im gonna put my lightbar from my 05 on it (it has 4x 8" KC HID offroad lamps on it too) then after that all my money is going in the rat rod till summer :P

you have quite the nice truck yourself :P

black_radiation
11-19-2008, 08:01 PM
ps, 09 2500/3500 will still come in mega cab, its 2010 they change to the fugly body style for the HD trucks, so still one more year. I can't believe they are getting rid of it though, its so functional, I use my cab all day long for throwing smaller stuff in, tools, extra jackets etc, plus the storage bins are perfect for emergency tools/equip. and my double air mattress blows up and fits in the back perfectly :P used it for camping out @ a family getogether a couple weeks ago

captain134
11-20-2008, 08:39 AM
Yeah I basically use the cab as a tool box.

I was going to deck mine out some more but I've only got about 35000 km left on the warranty and then it will be traded in or sold for a new one so there is no point now.

Chip and 6" exhaust would have been a nice addition though.

black_radiation
11-22-2008, 10:10 PM
yeah too bad its so bloody expensive to do anything for this truck. 1700$ for exhaust w/ the sim chips and EGR delete, 899 for the Edge attitude, and like 400$ for the intake, which sucks because I had my whole black truck done for under 1000$ w/ custom exhaust from the headers back(that 1000 includes chip and intake). vehicles are so expensive to modify these days :(
