In my googling, I have found that there are a lot of varying answers to this and there probably isn't an exact number but what's working for you guys?

I'm 5"5 and 140lbs. I work out 3X/week and do an hour of low intensity cardio 6X/week.

Right now I try to eat around 1gram of protein per lb body weight so 140.

My main goal is to stay fit and get stronger. I don't want to be "BIG"

Too much? Too little? Just right?

I used to count, but now I don't. I think the 1g/lb goes for bodybuilders, but for someone "just trying to stay in shape" I don't think you need that much.
I just try to eat as much of it as I can every meal. I definitely come out to less than 1g/lb of bodyweight though.

That means nothing tho, bone mass and other factors needs to be taken into account. some people are just built a little thicker.

I look a lot like a 150lb guy, and i weigh 170

Depends on how good of a workout session I have. If I think I really tore my muscles up ill put 4 scoops in my post workout shake, if I didnt have a really good session, 3 or 2 scoops.

So any where from 130g to 180g.

lame

I think around 1g/lb is usually a pretty good rule to go by for a ballpark number.
But usually people get around their needed amount of protein without even paying attention to it.
To stay lean, you don't really need 1g/lb.
It depends a lot on your metabolism, but us asians have high metabolism anyways :)

lol you serious? 100lbs? haha

I did weigh 150lbs a few months earlier though. Been working out consistently so managed to shed some weight and trying to pack on some muscle.

Good point. There are days when I just don't get around to eating as much and I'll settle around 80-100grams but on the workout days I definitely make sure my intake is up 140grams+.

Many ppl argue what is ideal or key...essentailly....I usually go 1.6 g/lb

So usually like 270-300 but im also into bodybuilding, drifferent strokes for different folks

HOWEVER! It is said!!

to bulk it should be 1.4-2.2 g/lb
Maintain/Cutt 1.0-1.4 g/lb

I'll let Darkane give the be all end all answer, but right now my protien sources are as follows (I'm 5'8 170)

Meal 1 - 4 eggs and 3 pieces of back bacon/spolumbos chicken sausage
Meal 2 - Chicken Breat
Meal 3 - Can O Tuna
Meal 4 - 12 - 16oz of something, ground beef, steak etc.

That and nuts throughout the day but count those more as fat. I'm off all dairy so that's pretty much the whole show for protein sources.

^^ Forcefed pretty much got it right there.

When bulking (current) I'm hitting 400g/day. Body weight of 237lbs.

When cutting I drop to 300g/day, and usually as low as 250g/day when I start stalling.

It's also good to note that 250g of real food protein is more beneficial than a split of whey + food. try to get all protein with food unless It's a post workout shake. Whey is needed there.

EDIT: I'm doing more of a powerbuilder type routine that's also why the added protein. If training for straight power, protein can be lowered a bit.
