I would be up for it, but I would prefer it to be live play. It would also be nicer to see a larger buy-in, say $20 minimum, just to increase the level of play.

live play would be fun however it is illegal to try and set that up over the net.

I don't think its illegal if you are just organizing a game. Dollar amounts can be discussed offline ;)

good call! I forgot its thanksgiving

Anyways, The reason why I am saying online is becuase I can create a private tourny just for beyond members, and I want to just make it a $5 game, to have everyone involved...

I have no problem making it $20, but I'm sure more of the newer non high rollers, would rather play for $5

Tonight is usually my poker night. So if you are up for a tourny tonight I'm definitely game and I also know of another person who would be willing to play as well.

I usually get home around 6:30pm

malcolmk14

I'd be down for a game tonight if we could get a couple more people.

Also, I'd definitely be down for a live game, that'd be sweet.

Speaking of crazy hands, this one was quite enjoyable and a refreshing change from my usual getting AK beat by AQ/AJ/AT or KK getting beat by ace rag, flopping a set and getting backdoor flushed, or having AA being beat by an underpair. Even for a bad player, entering a pot under the gun with the garbage that he was holding did surprise me somewhat (yeah, I'm still surprised by how lousy some players on pokerstars are... imagine that).

I'll see if I can get my assignment done in time by 8pm so I can play (hopefully).

i ended up winning 800 play money on that one

but i lost $400 on the next hand because i got a pair of 7s and 4s and some other guy had 7s and 5s

ARGH

AK no good vs J/2 in 1/2NL.. (rivered a flush)
AK no goos vs AQ.. on A/4/4 flop in Tourny
A9 no good vs fish that doesnt fold.. on A/X/5 flop

Edit: Just finished grinding online, I ended up winning back all the money lost at the casino) I guess its a break even day...

Do higher buy-ins = better quality of players? That is, fewer players making donkey calls like this one?

There is bad players everywhere you go, but I think my Headsup game is really good, and I have moved up to the $50 HU's, I might start playing the 100's soon (I know I can beat it, i've played like 20 of them)

However the biggest difference for me is not playing 12-15 tables at once anymore, and only playing 3-4 MTTs or 2 Headsup games at once...

I don't know about you, but I would love for my AA to be getting called by Q/10 every day of the week, even if he wins once in awhile (Which is normal, your only gunna win 4/5 times)

I have really turned up my aggression deep in tournments and it has been helping me a lot. I see you are playing SNG's Gain, i would really recommend you download SNG WIZARD
http://www.sngwiz.com/index.php

It is free for 30days, but I don't think it ever expires...

this is not 100% accurate because you can't relay on the numbers each time, but it really shows when you should be shoving/calling/folding deep in SNG's

Save your hand histories from a couple games and then import them into the software...

Great call on the SNG WIZARD. You could probably surmise this from my posts, but I’m actually a pretty tight-aggressive player and as a result am not too hot at shorthanded (and especially heads up) play. I mean, I can certainly adjust my starting hand requirements, play position, assess whether others at the table are loose or tight and all, but I know I probably don't steal nearly enough when deep in the tournament. I'll give it a go after my self exclusion period expires (, ya I self banned myself for a month from PokerStars after getting so frustrated with the suckouts).

Yes, very true on the QT/AA scenario. I guess being a tight player I get quite annoyed when people don't "respect" my raises (a term that gets thrown around by all of those poker commentators on televised poker) and then suck out.

Good to hear about your heads up successes -- I certainly think that HU is where a great deal of money can be made, as luck is obviously less of a factor there.

I'm tight agressive, but HU you gotta mix it up. I love playing Heads-up as aggressive as I can, and until your opponent wants to play back at you, then thats the most profitable way.

I wish I still had time to play pokers.

Kobe
11-20-2008, 10:03 PM
I think with Headsup you really need to adjust to the other players style...

This is why you can't really play more then 2 HU tables at once...

In stars the blinds start at 10/20 with 1,500 chips, and Im pretty tight in the early stages, but I will still minraise a long of hands with the button..

***** THE BUTTON IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF HU

Position is everything in headsup!! when the blinds get up to 25/50 however, I start being a lot more aggressive...

The reason why I'm playing lots of it is because variance is so low, and most players are extremely weak at it.. (Be honest who here thinks there HU game is good?)

Dan Harrington has a very good part in his hold'em book on HU, with a ton of examples..

I sure as hell am comfident with my headsup game and if I get HU in a tournment you bet your ass I am no chopping unless the guy is a really good player, but over the avg players I think I have a huge advantage, here is a picture of my overall HU graph

I feel your pain -- the one against "Dominator238" is pretty sick.

Here are some of mine (albeit at smaller stakes -- I can't let the PokerStars doom switch destroy me as quickly...). I got so fed up with my KAL 007 account after all the bad beats I got in late November / early December that I took out all my money from it (I think I dropped about 20 percentage points on the ladder at officialpokerrankings.com) -- maybe choosing the flight number of a doomed aircraft wasn't such a good idea for a poker username (the incident occured the day I was born).

Hello Konrad,

Thank you for your email.

If nothing else you have our undying gratitude for managing to write an
entertaining email that is far beyond the emails we ordinarily receive.

I do have to commend you on receiving only one chat complaint in December,
and I hope you will continue that way in the new year.

As a sincere New Year present I did enable you to change your image, and I
would ask you to change it to this image:

http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RwAAAN0VFx6ADQ9gyP4kpp2dfFcesgYwTFQi03Z5idmU4GT9oHhGaxjaTexXaJpgUMfL7Hn5yeuN77yqfX4jgxUJv!!5QalD0cX50Y8gXJQ/scary-doll.JPG

It will bring fear into the hearts of your opponents and you will be able to
outbluff and outplay them with ease*

*we do not assume any responsibility if this strategy backfires.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to
contact us.

Hahaha, I really enjoy that you are allowing me change my image, I was wondering if changing my avatar to annette (annette_15) on PS will make me run better? I appreciate the Doll and I will keep that in consideration as well :)

Just curious however, how many chatbans / chat warnings did I get in 2007? I am going to make it a new Years resolution to reduce tha warnings / bannings by 80% and I need to figure out what number I will be aiming for...

Thank you very much for the quick, and positive e-mail, a big thumbs up for Pokerstars!

Hello Konrad,

Thank you for your email.

Annette_15 might work as well, but is clearly inferior to the doll (please
do not use the doll after midnight, though, just a warning).

Alternatively you could got for a snazzy optical illusion that is bound to
give everyone else headaches, just make sure to put a piece of tape where

Great email...What's that first image though? It doesn't load for me.

Yeah, I don't know how Annette does it -- I've never made a deposit on Stars either actually...and I can't seem to get past the $400 mark (it seems as if the doomswitch comes on in full force after a while)

 That picture is VERY trippy -- the first time I saw it, I was mesmorized by it for a few seconds before going -- whoa! wtf...gotta block that image for sure!

Care to post an example of when you've received a chat warning? I got a chat warning immediately after this hand (for obvious reasons) -- this particular guy (xbone666) had been getting under my skin the whole tournament, and when he rivered me yet again (to send me to the rail) I just lost it -- at least I can laugh about it now.

Haha, railing friends, and getting mad at others, I called someone a fag once and that gave me 1 month, but they took it off after like 13 days lol

After the e-mails I played a $50 HU

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4800/tyvr2.jpg

The guy counterfitted me on the river, but he never even realized it and ended up sitting out (must of closed the table)

A7 vs AJ on an A/T/7 board.. river was a T hahahah

Haha what a hand history. If he's gonna do that he might as well donate the $50 to a charitable organization -- get a fraction of it back as a tax credit. Kind of reminds me of James Woods on the Chris Bigler...err, i mean Professional Poker Tour

U4du3EAZoT4

Hm...oh yeah, I got my chat banned on Tony G's old website (this must have been at least 4 years ago)...I was on a drunken binge (with a few friends egging me on). I singled out this other player with the username "limogal" calling him or her a transvestite, a prostitute, and so on. I thought that since it's Tony G's poker site that trash talking would have been encouraged

My previous post was the only time I got an email from PokerStars and a little pop up window warning me about my chat.

The reason why I'm playing lots of it is because variance is so low, and most players are extremely weak at it.. (Be honest who here thinks there HU game is good?)

We can create a private cash game on partypoker, or private tournys on Fulltilt and Pokerstars...

BUMP..

Anybody care to comment on how I played this hand? I have had many (MANY) thoughts about it and I think I've analyzed it to death. I should probably post it on a dedicated poker forum but I never get around to those sites anymore.

I don't want to taint anything so I'll post my thoughts on this hand later.

 I've never come as close to puking from poker as I did after this hand (fortunately I didn't -- strong stomach :) ). Obviously the winner of this hand would win the tournament (as was the case here), which is what made this difficult to stomach.

Not complaining about the bad beat (although I have just recently had the always classic flop-a-higher-set-only-for-the-lower-set-to-hit-the-one-out-on-the-river-to-make-quads). I've read an important bit by Mike Caro where he (correctly) states that good players consistently getting their money in with the best hand, and one can only suffer a bad beat if they get outdrawn, therefore bad beats are far more frequent among good players.

Haha, it's just a set up... Nothing you can do about it man, you could raise a bit more preflop... make it 3.5X - 4X his raise...

Here you got an even worse way to get a set of Kings cracked

Ah, that call your opponent made on the turn disgusts me (as do almost all players who overplay AT or AJ...). Gutshot straight draw, no flush draw, only second pair.

The feeling you got when the river card hit I'm sure is identical to a feeling I have experienced sooo many times before.

That hand that I had...I still don't think that any rational player could possibly believe that QQ is good on a board like that, after I had reraised the UTG raisor preflop in second position (and I play a tight game). It should have been so obvious that I had AA, KK, or AK -- all of which would be way ahead. There's also the off-chance that I have AQ, JJ, TT, which again, would be way out front.

The only hand I could realistically worry about was AQ, but since the other player raised UTG and just called the reraise screamed at me that they had TT, JJ or QQ. Of course there was also the chance that they had AA, but I would have had them beat on the flop. I was hoping that they had TT or JJ and would call my all-in reraise on the flop. Even with the hand that they had (straight flush draw) the pot odds were not there to make the call (hence the massive reraise).

But yes, I think you're right. The only way I might have won the hand was to have made a larger raise preflop. I didn't because I was up against the chip leader and couldn't be sure that they didn't hold aces. On the flop, I could only be worried about AQ and given how the hand was played I was pretty certain that wasn't what my opponent was holding.

Just another one of those hands :dunno:

The thing is he is open ended which gives him 8 sure outs...
not including including 2 for the queens, it is also a $2 tourny they are not giving you respect, the only thing he is really scared of is you having KK (which obv you do) but with JJ, TT it doesn't even bother him..

It's a sick spot for sure, but you have to realize those idiots are never folding...

When you do shove there he is getting 3.81-1 to call and is 4.7-1 to win (if he puts you on a hand betting him right now...) Thats still such a sick spot to lay down QQ there

True enough -- the 20k reraise isn't enough to give some people a clue that they're behind. I didn't include the other 2 queens as outs (from his point of view) because that would make a four card straight (with only an ace needed for broadway -- just like your hand that was posted). Of course, I doubt that it crossed their mind...I was called right away on my all-in bet so I'm sure they just saw the damn draw and went for it, not even considering how crippled they would be if they lost, let alone if they were behind in the hand. In other words, they were willing to give up the chip lead for a likely 6th or 7th place finish on a draw.

 This same tournament had this player I had thrashed in the early stages -- I had AK in the small blind and he kept tagging along after having entered the pot with Q8 UTG. I'm sure you already know the reason why he played that hand to begin with ("but they were......!")

what are you guys playing for limits? I've been sticking to 1/2... but thinking about going up to 2/4. I know it's not much of a jump.

I'll maybe check out that poker site down the road, I'm quite content right now with PKR... although the site isn't that great. I'm averaging 1k/week profit.

Looking back on my game a couple years ago when I played at deerfoot at cash in Calgary... man I was terrible. Learning discipline and patience has improved my game tremendously.

Alright, fair enough. What my gripe was about were the chip stacks (him 1st, me not too far back in second) and given how the hand had been played it should have been obvious that I had a made hand that was ahead.

Personally I would almost never put all that money in on a draw in this situation. I would seriously consider if I was shortstacked (i.e. were unlikely to win the tournament or move up in rank unless I double up here) or could afford to lose those chips (i.e. lose the pot but still be in decent chip position).

Oh well, I'll be back, but not for at least a few days after that (it was my last hand of the night too  -- had to IM a couple of friends to bitch about it before going to bed)

You really need to put your money in on draws sometimes if the odds are right, its those little edges in Poker that set you apart from being a +EV and -EV player...

It is espcially important in cash games....

Alright, food for thought. I do put my money in on draws in the latter two scenarios I've mentioned, just not the one that occured in that hand -- likely attributable to my limited experience at cash games.

That's what I'm wondering. Plenty of fishies on the 1/2 tables... but although it's a slight up in stakes, I wonder if it's enough to keep most of the fishies away.

Had a guy push all in for 180$ at a 20 dollar pot with J 10 J on the flop. Next to act calls the all in.
I'm last to act, I re raise all in for 280$. Second dude calls me. (I have J9)

The first guy all in has 3 7 off.... I was shocked. Second dude has QQ and I river another J to make quads.
