I was just wondering if this sounded like a Scam.
so basically heres the story....
I know someone and shes told me that there is a business and what they do is they buy houses under your name, after a year I guess they sell off the house or do whatever with it and they pay you like 7000 dollars to use your name. Thats about all the details I know and it sounds kinda sketchy because they are asking me for my SIN number and my t4s and stuff.
has anyone ever heard of people doing this? Or does it sound like a load of horse to get someone to give you their personal info?

Dude...

Seriously.

Just think about it for a second. Then you'll realize what it is and you'll ask for the post to be closed (and I'll close it).

I knew it was a scam without even looking at the content. The title was enough.

Dude - if it was this easy, don't you think everyone would be doing it? If something is this easy, it's a scam, or it's illegal. Either way, you do not want to get involved.

Thank god you have the "keen law-schooled intelligence" of Beyond to help you make your decisions. ;)

What's her first name? Chances are that we have bumped into the same person.

They're probably using your name to use on illegal workers, while the business can use your SIN for business write-offs while you're stuck with the T4 personal income tax at year-end.

Take a second and go back and read the title of your thread. That's all you need to do to realize that this is a scam. Do you really need to ask?

it is a scam, but not in the way you all think. my father used to do the same thing with real estate.

it basically amounts to mortgage fraud and with the housing market in decline, this is not a good idea, even at the best of times.

I can't believe this didn't scream scam to the op...I'd be laughing in their faces if they asked me for all that and told me what it was for haha. Wow people these days.

I know people that have done this.

Mind you, they did it for people they know very well, like family members.

It's basically a way to avoid capital gains tax.

I've also been approached with this. At the time I was really tempted to sign up. I'm kinda glad I did not now.

Is there anymore details about this?

I've been trying to avoid the use of this smiley as long as possible as it has flooded the forums lately. But it's unavoidable in this situation.
