A good friend didn't want this car anymore and it was offered to me. So I snapped it up!

It's an oldie,.. I don't know if I could consider it a classic yet, or if it'll ever be considered a classic.

I do think this was the best look for this style.

I don't know how many of you are going to appreciate this car.

1987 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24

the old 2.8 auto was pulled and a 2001, 3400 with a 5sp was put in it's place

Custom performance chip and full exhaust

(too bad it's fwd tho)

The wife and I love driving this thing,.. it's got some good balls for an old cavalier

Sure brings the spirit back into spirited driving,.. especially when you've been driving a jeep and a mini-van for a while,.. LOL

Just thought I would share the fun to the few that might think this car looks cool for an old cavalier

:D

Rare to see those old Z24's, back in 1992 I had an 89 Z24 (the next gen newer from yours).. Damn I thought I was a pimp haha

I traded it for a bike and the rest was history.. lol

it would be out of a newer gm car like a Malibu or Montana van and cars of those sorts, GM used that new gen motor in alot of vehicles. It's a 60 degree V6 single cam engine

I think this motor was out of a 2001 malibu? Impala?

Not the 3.4 dohc

I got it for a good price,.. has lots of little 'bugs' and lots of small cosmetic things, but I'm not too concerned, as long as it keeps running and stays fun to drive.

Man this thing is full of torque!

decent on gas too

to fill was $45 and it took me 310 kms. 1/3 of the tank must've been testing the torque,.. LOL

It sure is a fun car to drive, almost as fun as driving my jeep on the trails.

the 3.1's have a tendancy for coolant to leak on the lower intake manifold. i got a 2000 malibu with that motor, lots of low end torque but you need to keep an eye on your coolant.

my favorite body style. i had a red one as my second car after my 85 mercury topaz haha. i actually think the front end looks alot like the Monte Carlo SS. quad headlights, signals at the bottom and the open mouth in between. i did love that car for sure

The 3400 is a pretty awesome engine to swap into that thing. My neighbor was doing a similar thing with his 80s Cavalier.

It sure looks a lot better than the 1995+ models. :(

If it was out of a 2001 W-body it would be the pushrod LA1.

I dont know

I've chatted with some people who have had the same swap with the chip burned by the same person in the states and they've been getting about 205ish hp - whether it's at the wheels or not,.. who knows if those states side guys are telling the truth.

I do know this car did hit 15.1 at the track last year

car weight is roughly 2800 lbs

good enough for the wife and I

She's driving it today,.. LOL

I drove it all day yesterday :D

Based on what the time slip was,.. I searched for a 1/4 mile calculator,.. it says the car has approx 165 hp

I don't know if our altitude has anything to do with it either

^^ 205 sounds right in the ballpark.

Those motors do have 185BHP stock.

Those old Cavs are sweet. I love the Digital dash. All the lights still work on it?

It did 15.1 at the track? What MPH? We could estimate HP based on MPH

yup,.. but the tach cuts in and out once in a while

Edit: I don't remember the mph

I'm sure he was into the 90's

Nice car Jay.

I've known couple of friends who have gotta blowjobs in these (1992 style, Z24) back in the high school days, darked out windows with a windshield sunblocker right in the school parking lot.

Nice wheels Jay. I've given up on my fwd gm sub-compacts, just driving them till they die.

Whatever happened to your previous, second generation engine/front end swap Cavalier?

I've kinda given up too,.. but I couldn't pass this deal up

My beast is withering away/wind beaten and sun stroked on a farm needing rings and a turbo rebuild (damn fuel pumps) - RIP.

I think I want to get either one of 2 extremes:

1: the new camaro SS
2: the Chevy volt

LOL

Or be done with everything and ride a mountain bike everywhere. LOL
