Going to be priced to compete with the F430, 500hp base version using the AMG "63" 6.2L motor, with a 700hp version coming later that adds turbos to the mix. Not sure what gearbox they'll be using yet, but it'll be a paddle shifted semi-auto.

That paint job hurts my eyes an succeeds in making it hard to see what the entire car looks like.

Ya that is the same paint job they used on the upcoming NSX.

I thought I read that McLaren and MB were dissolving their partnership and thus the SLR but McLaren is using the AMG engine? Odd....

says the guy that can't SEE the car properly yet.

It's foolish to judge on spyshots...this car will be hot.

Hehe... fair enough.

But, this kinda tells me what I need to know:

Not sure what gearbox they'll be using yet, but it'll be a paddle shifted semi-auto.

Mercedes owns 40% of McLaren. McLaren and Mercedes have differing opinions on the roadcars, therefore Mercedes will not be tapping into McLaren resources for their roadcars. The SLR will be the last Mercedes project worked on by McLaren. Mercedes is using their DTM partner HWA for their future performance roadcars.

McLaren will be developing roadcars in house, and have access to Mercedes technology.

It's not an F1... it's a new model. Why would it have a middle seat?

The F430 is certainly better looking!

  I think lots of members would pay $5 to view ask Leo... Hell if you had $5 for every view of the jailbait thread you'd have that car in no time.

It's too bad that McLaren and Mercedes had such huge differences in sports car philosophy. It actually led to Gordon Murray's departure at McLaren Cars, because the SLR was supposed to be a mid engined as per his design, but Mercedes wanted classic front engine rear drive. In the end, a compromise was made, and it became a mid-front engine car.

Gordon Murray also never intended the SLR to lose it's top (even tho the Vision SLR concept had a roadster version), so the car was designed to always have a top. Murray had said publically that there would never be a convertible version of the SLR. After he left, MB and McLaren engineers lopped the top off for the SLR lol.

Gordon Murray is the man, he knows how to design very amazing cars. He's part of the Caparo group, and had a lot of his input in the project. True F1 street car lol.

You gotta see the Stig lap. 3g's under cornering. Insanity haha.

If Murray was still part of McLaren, the P11 would be utterly ridiculous.

That's the coolest part about owning a Mclaren (other than having the world's fastest production car).

I think you are right, because the Veyron does 250 MPH and the Koeniggsegg CCX(can't spell) also can do 250 MPH. The F1 tops out at 240.

im gonna bet that thing is gonna beat both of them as well as well as the Ultimate Aero in top speed. I dont really think the appeal of the new McLaren is gonna be just top speed tho...

I don't think so. They've specifically said this will be designed to compete with the F430 and Gallardo, I have a feeling top speed isn't their primary concern. If they shot for the top speed record then Veyron comparisons would start and, at the price-point they want to maintain, they can't compete.

I think they'll market this as a head-turner for those that live in places like Vegas, Hollywood and, to a lesser extent, Calgary where an enthusiast isn't wowed by Ferrari and Lambo anymore. This is going to be unique and they'd be silly not to take advantage of that fact.

You mean the coolest part about owning a McLaren F1. I don't see why because that model had the 3rd center seat, ALL future McLaren production cars will have that same feature.

The Lamborghini Gallardo doesn't have sissor doors. :dunno:
