Hey guys and gals.

If you're feeling friendly, could you vote for me in the Dean Guitars "Get Your Wings" Contest? It's basically a contest that's a tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell. Some of the judges are going to be Matt and Corey from Trivium, Rita Haney, Vinnie Paul and others.

I did the video in a few takes and basically just rocked out. Guitar is in Drop D, slightly flat (the way Dime would've done it) and I didn't shred as hard as I could. I just rocked out and did a take I was happy with. There are mistakes yes, but remember Vulgar Display of Power. That was my inspiration for this.

There's a lot of dudes on there that are playing with no emotion. Just full on shred as fast as they can retardedness. Which is great if that's your thing. It's just not my thing anymore. I didn't want to be one of those dudes so I picked a dropped D blues inspiried thing. Again... Dimebag style with pinch harmonics and I threw in some sweeps to show that I can play fast.

your skills are solid but the video itself is a bit weak. the rules say that one of the celebrity judge criteria is showmanship. i'd say to submit another video with some editing and mixing, and incorporate some showmanship like you'd see from dimebag. the audio should be direct in to a pro tools session and sync'd to the video. do some basic eq/compression and mastering to make it the loudest...when it gets played back to back, stuff that seems louder sounds better.

i still gave you an 11, but to really stand out for the celebrity judges, you're gonna have to separate yourself from some solid competition :)

The audio was recorded separately from the video. Kerry played thru his Line 6 amp, mic'd with an SM57. Recorded directly into my multitracker, where it was EQ'd, and mastered with a variety of compression and cuts, and finally normalized. It was then sync'd to the crappy video from my point and shoot lol. That's why it sounds so much more chunky than the other vids on the site, but looks kinda blah.

I'd love to record it with multiple camera angles at a different location that's not my basement, but there would be a LOT of gear to haul around in order to do that :).

I think it's not really based on votes to win, but the higher the average the more likely you'll be noticed by the judges. There's a huge list of prizes, one of which is a huge Dean prize pack with a Razorback, Krank Amp and a one of a kind Bronze Dimebag sculpture.
