Sure tugs at the heartstrings. Both of my cats were once stray's.

One of mine has very stumpy ears since she was left outside in the cold for far too long, by the last owners :(

Much like "Ugly" she has a lot to relate too.
That story just about made a tear run down my cheek.
It sure is amazing, of what pets can teach a person.

Found my cat, hypothermic, clinging to life, at 8 weeks old, found her while I was working a job doing storm drain maintenance.

I wouldn't give her up for the world.

that was the saddest thing in the world...Went and got Nizmo and brought him in my room so he can sleep by my head tonight. He's my best friend and although was never a stray he's a very loving pet.

That story makes me appreciate him even more.

I thought it was a sad story but I'm confused why people are so affected by it when thousands of cats and dogs are brutalized everyday in asia? Nothing seems to matter to anyone unless it's in north america :dunno:

I read in the phillipines that a general practice for killing a dog is to put it in a sack and hang it from a wall or tree and beat it to it's death with a stick.

It's sad not because it's north america but because the cat was striving for affection and let the people do that to it in the hopes of getting even a little tiny bit of love and affection from the very people being mean to it.

It's all in how it was written. When written like this, it's sad because we can relate to the cat on some level.

If it was the same pic with no story, just a caption saying "Am ded becuz am so Ronery, Ronery, Sad and Brue" You'd find something amusing, even though you feel bad for the cat.

If it was a newspaper clipping, saying "1000 dogs and cats dead in Asia" you're going to keep flipping through the sections until you hit the sports page and never think of it again.

We were Japan 3 months ago and saw lots of stray cats. Virtually are shy and weren't approachable.

In Osaka, the street cats near our hotel were mellow and tame where they lounged oblivious to the humans passing by. We ran into this old guy who provided milk, crunchies and even canned cat food for the kitties every day.

The old guy spent his money on the strays even though he could barely afford to clothe himself.

While I'm fully aware that I'm only human in the physical sense of the word, that I have no soul, and that my heart is used solely for the purpose of distributing oxygenated blood, but:
You guys are a bunch of fucking sissies.

Getting all fucking misty eyed over a picture of some runt cat and some bullshit story that's too cliche to even make it into the subplot of some horrible made-for-tv chick flick on Slice.

Your man-cards have all been punched, and you're officially on notice.

yes it is, moreso it's a western thing tho than north american..

goto S.E Asia and see how many sob stories you can pull outta there, the strays i've seen.. twitching dogs with 2 legs, cats w/ flies biting their ears, people shoo them away at the restaurants, because there are SO FKEN MANY of them, not because they're heartless/cold/inhumane people.
if you were to pet every single stray dog/cat that you would come across during 1 day, you'd have fleas and whatever else they're carrying.

There are too many stray animals to keep tally and properly neuter/vaccinate.

Don't blame them though, blame the western colonialists who brought cats and dogs and let them run rampant.
