No, experience is not key in restaurants, unless what they are looking for is experience. If they're not looking for experience, it is so that they can mold you into a shitty server, because it is a shitty restaurant, like Phil's, or Denny's. Are you applying at Phil's or Denny's?

This thread fucking sucks, and belongs in the career section, or at least food and dining. :facepalm: Are you high?

All restaurants are desperate for servers since they have a high turnover/low application rate. They won't care either way as long as you have the right appearance/attitude.

Also it depends, some restaurants need people with experience to train other people if a lot of senior servers suddenly quit or something.

So i think it just depends on the place. In general, you can get hired with no/a lot of background in serving, it wont' really matter.

if you are a girl you need a nice body and face
no exp. necessary in a regular place

if you are a guy you need exp.
less cash in a regular restaurant.
more cash in a high end restaurant.

+1 probably more based on your interaction/relationship (ie you with customers at table) than experience IMHO, unless it's a "high class" place
