I'm currently doing a job that sort of involves detailing. Just vacuuming big stuff before a car goes in for a exterior wash or a real detail shampoo etc.

Do car dealerships usually have detail bays or do they send them to private company's. I'd rather work inside then outside this winter. Do you usually have to have experence to get a job like this these days?

We have our own detailing bay.
Rarely send anything out.

Most dealerships have a detail bay.

overflow work is sometimes still sent out (unavoidable) but almost any dealership will keep you busy.

1) put on decent clothes
2) walk to nearest dealership
3) find service/autobody manager
4) go "whaddup dawg, toss me the keys to that turbo M3 and I'll clean it up real nice for ya"
5) ???
6) you gots a job, dawg!

Sorry got derailed but that's the basic idea :D It's a decent summer gig, in the winter with the door possibly closed it gets misty, cars are extra filthy, blah.

Detailing hooked me. *see avatar*

I've got about 7 years total under my belt, I'm the department manager at a dealership.

So I'd be best to ask for a service manager if I went in?
I'm assuming its not to difficult of a job. sure it requires hard work and everything being perfect. but i kind of enjoy seeing the finished job after a filthy car was in

At my work, we have 2 bays for brand new pre-delivery cars and 1 for used/service detailing

Depending on the customer and how anal he is/will be, usually its done at the dealership, otherwise we get it contracted out by mobile guys

The 2 senior detailers at my work are getting paid $100/car, they usually do 5-6 cars a day, and its such slack work

They work 10 hour days...usually its around 2 hours a car....I'm sure they could pump out more cars if they actually worked, most of the time I see them vaccum and clean the interior and then go for a 30 min coffee break then start detailing the outside, then 30 min coffee break etc....
