so A friend and myself rent a garage, there were a couple come by and were very confused to as why we were in here. I was not here at the time, my friend explained that we had a 6 month lease on the garage. they asked about the house and were told the couple that were renting the basement moved from the downstairs to the upstairs.

they again were even more confused as they just rented the complete property from a owner from maylasia.

she was a very very hot girl, wish she was moving into the house...sorry no pics.

I feel bad for them becasue they have probably been duped out of near 3000 rent and deposit.

so just a warning to those pay nothing until you see the property.

the real owner lives in BC and has a caretaker that lives in the city to do showings and take care of repairs ect...

the house ect were listed on rentfaster when I got the place in pineridge.

She was hot, gord. Too bad she had some weird dude with her, woulda been easier to stuff her into the back of my van and hide her away for safe keeping. On a more serious note, I'm going to wait until she comes back and help her get her money back. She's way to cute to let somebody scam her.

Maybe it's a roleplaying thing? Duped "girl" and mechanic? :dunno:

Anyone dumb enough to rent a house via email/phone from someone in Malaysia without seeing the place first deserves to get scammed. Hot or not, grow some brains.

Saw this on the news today. At first I didn't really understand what you two were saying. This sucks, I feel sorry for the ones that fell for it. But why would you send a deposit without stepping foot inside the house.

Scammers attack real estate
UPDATED: 2008-10-29 13:27:38 MST

By BILL KAUFMANN

Consumer advocates are warning Calgarians about scammers exploiting genuine real estate listings to rip off people seeking rental properties.

The head-up comes after a city couple desperately seeking a home to rent fell for the scheme they found on a website Oct. 12 — wiring $966 to a Nigerian recipient claiming to be a Calgary doctor headed to Africa to do Christian missionary work with a southwest home for rent.

“It was almost too good to be true — we should have thought more,” said the anonymous woman whose boyfriend transferred the money Oct. 14 with the hopes keys and documents for the bungalow on Hampton Cres. S.W. would arrive in return. “We were kind of in a panic to get a home and it was based a lot on trust...it was quite a believable story.” As of noon yesterday (wed), the fraudulent listing was still up on the website kijiji.ca with a $1,500 a month price tag and had been visited 425 times.

The house actually belongs to Vivian Anderson, 79, who’d put her home up for sale nearly two months ago due to failing health and had been visited by six parties interested in renting — including the couple who’d been ripped off. “I felt so sorry for them,” said Anderson.

“At my age, I don’t feel there’s much left in life for me and these crooks are violating me.” A sign has since been placed on her lawn informing prospective renters of the scam. Real estate scams periodically appear in Calgary but this is the first one using an MLS listing, said Daniel MacDonald, spokesman for the southern Alberta Better Business Bureau.

“It’s amazing people will fall for it but it’s pretty convincing,” said MacDonald. “Money shouldn’t be changing hands until you’ve signed a lease.”

And renters should be automatically suspicious of any request to wire money overseas, he added. The BBB has informed kijiji.ca of the fake listing , said MacDonald “but we don’t have the power to force them to remove it.” The conned couple haven’t called police, said the anonymous woman.

“I think my partner just wants to forget about it,” she said.

Why people are wiring money to strangers on the net, sight unseen, is beyond me.

I still feel bad for them though. Good people just falling prey.

I use Kijiji and Craigslist all the time for my rentals and I get tonnes of e-mails from these scammer's. The moment I see they are from out of town, I delete it.

I really can't understand how anyone could possibly be taken in by this.

I mean if it was some elaborate scam filled with loop holes and super-villans... maybe.

But "I'm renting this place, but oh wait I now live overseas and need you to send me the money first" scam is quiet obvious.
