1999 Vw Golf Deck Problems!

I bought a 1999 golf and the person before just tore out the deck he had in it and now im trying to put in a kenwood and i bought a harness but i was told i cant use it as the person before had a custom one in there. So i connected all the wires im not sure if i did correctly but i connected the yellow(Battery) to the red(positive) and the black to the black and i plugged it in and no power even came on and i checked all the fuses and none are burnt out. Well i didnt check the small ones as im pretty sure it would be the large fuses. any suggestions?

Yes. Put down the tools and take it to somebody who knows what they're doing.

Red wire = switched 12V
Yellow wire = constant 12V
