View Full Version : Sooo you think your car insurance is expensive?

Being a teenager in Canada isn't all it's cracked up to be. Described as having "a tendency to speed" by his doting mother, 19 -year old Jason Towers has racked up no less than 10 speeding tickets since he got his license in May 2005. Towers claims most of those tickets were given for only going a few kilometers over the per-hour limit. Which definitely explains his two license suspensions in that time. If you're starting to get the impression that Towers might be a dangerous driver, you'd be wrong.

He's only had two minor fender benders, oh and that one little accident where he totaled his car. So it came as a shock to Jason's mom when she called to renew the insurance on his Nissan 240SX, only to be quoted $104,556. By calling around, she eventually got that number down to $50,000, still more than she was prepared to spend on insuring her son's car. Sometimes, life just isn't fair. [Via the Edmonton

Is this the same person that was on the newspaper not too long ago? I thought the insurance quote on that guy was in the millions or something? I dunno, I can't seem to find it. haha! Regardless, that sucks for them!

His name wasn't Jason, it was Janson.

He must have found that insurance was cheaper for him on a motorcycle when he moved to Penticton.

You're right, it is Janson Towers, this article has the proper name:

http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news/story.html?id=9d92d4fe-1c61-4364-ac54-b61e31a34e50&k=47030

Talk about foreshadowing.

It is unfortunate that he never caught on, even after getting at least ten tickets, a collision and being effectively denied insurance coverage.

Sun player killed in motorcycle crash
By J.P. SQUIRE
Sunday, October 12, 2008

Okanagan Sun running back Janson Towers was killed in a motorcycle crash on the way home from a team practice on Friday.
Police, fire and ambulance personnel rushed to the two-vehicle accident at the corner of Gordon Drive and Harvey Avenue in Kelowna at 7:42 p.m.
“Preliminary reports indicate the speeding motorcycle was westbound, driving too fast to stop in time for a semi-trailer, which had begun the left turn onto Gordon Drive,” said RCMP Const. Bob Charron in a news release just before midnight Friday.
“The motorcycle struck the tail end of the trailer. Efforts by a qualified first-aid (attendant) and an off-duty ambulance worker who were witnesses worked hard to keep the Alberta man alive. The 21-year-old male died from serious injuries en route to hospital.”
Highway 97 was closed for nearly three hours so police and an accident reconstruction specialist could examine the scene.
RCMP are asking any witnesses who saw the motorcycle on the road prior to the crash and who have not yet been in contact with or spoken to police at the scene to call the detachment at 250-762-3300 and leave their names.
The RCMP officers investigating the accident are off for four days and no one was available for more details.
Towers‘ death occurred the day before the junior football team faced the South Surrey Rams in a B.C. Football Conference semifinal game at the Apple Bowl.
It was only four days after the five-foot-10, 205-pound Edmonton native was presented with the Marty Cullen trophy as the most inspirational player during the Sun‘s awards dinner.
Four years ago, on Sept. 1, 2004, players watched as all-star running back Jeff Halvorson collapsed during practice.
Medical examiners concluded the death of the 21-year-old, just six weeks after marrying his high school sweetheart, was the result of heart failure brought on by a virus.
For more on Towers and the impact on the Okanagan Sun, turn to today‘s sports section on page B1.

In an ideal world insurance companies would provide discounts to people who have taken performance/racing schools.

Instead they'll probably drop you from your policy.

One accident I witnessed this year could have been easily avoided if the person behind the wheel driving a non ABS car understood threshold braking. Instead they locked up their wheels instantly and shit their pants as their car plowed into the rear end of another car

It sucks to go that way but when you have a driving history like him it's hard to feel bad for him?! Definitely feel bad for all his family + friends though because it's tough to deal with things like death and mourning.

You have to pay your dues like the rest of us! My insurance didn't get cheap until I turned 21 and maintained a clean record.
