While getting your fart can exhaust for your Civic, you get milk and bread that you mom asked you to pick up all in one place!

The Calgary market is going to be saturated with grocery stores in the next little while.

Overwaitea is coming and so is Whole Foods. With Canadian Tire, thats three entrants to the grocery store market. I wonder if they will all survive.

Canadian Tire money to buy groceries? That's not a bad idea at all. Looks like CT is the new WM.

Too bad it'll be overpriced shit like most other things in that store. Other than the automotive section Canadian tire sucks.

Yeah but WM sells things cheap, I doubt CT can compete with their prices on anything.

I guess its useful if you go to CT a lot. I was really happy when Shoppers started selling groceries, so convenient.

So when will Superstore start selling tires?

I have an idea for Canadian Tire. How about concentrating on something that is sorely lacking in the Canadian marketplace? That being quality, reasonably priced sporting goods.

I can buy Milk and Bread anywhere. However good luck finding decently priced items such as weight lifting equipment or even a speed bag. I've been looking for a speed bag for several months. However the only local places I can find to buy are Walmart and Canadian Tire. Both only sell one kind. Walmart has a cheap vinyl job. Canadian Tire at least has a leather model but its a shit brown color and looks like it was modeled after the first one ever invented. But at least for a speed bag, shipping is cheap so I can order on the internet from anywhere.

However on things such as Weight lifting equipment, treadmills, bicycles, etc, there are very few sources to purchase from, and shipping is usually crazy expensive. So your left to buy from either Canadian Tire, Walmart, or Sports Check where you get shitty quality for a somewhat cheap price.

Or else you can go to these specialized stores and get decent quality but basically anally raped on price. And that's if your lucky enough that they even have what your looking for in stock. Otherwise you can expect to wait weeks and lots of time even have to pay the shipping. I mean wtf? If I wanted to pay for shipping I would sit on my ass at home and order it. When I go into a brick and mortar store I expect you to either have the item in stock or else be able to order it for me without added shipping, unless or course its something rare or special order. How about bury the cost of shipping into the item price in the first fucking place. I don't know about you but when I go into a store looking to spend a few grand on fitness equipment, I don't expect to have to deal with waiting a week or two or paying a few hundred extra in "shipping" fees.

Canadian Tire should hire me as fucking CEO. I could double their profits in no time, and selling groceries would not be on the agenda. A few of my "brilliant" ideas:

-Pay mechanics a decent wage so you attract some of decent quality. My current opinion of Canadian Tire mechanics is that you have done damn well if you get your car back in better condition than when you left it. Think nobody can fuck about an oil change or a tire swap? Well then you haven't had your car serviced at Canadian Tire. Your lucky if your fucking wheel doesn't fall off on your drive home. I would NEVER trust a Canadian Tire mechanic to touch my car, even for the simplest thing.

-Carry some decent tasteful mod products. Not everyone wants fucking Type R or Type S plastered on every item that they buy. This type of shit only really appeals to the 16 yr old punks and the hardcore ricers. The rest of us really just want subtle, quality, products at a decent price.

-Build stores with a decent amount of warehouse/storage space. Its plain annoying and looks messy to have pallets full of shit blocking off 2 or 3 whole isles at any given time. Every fucking time I go there, the aisle I need to go down seems to be a storage/construction zone which is near impossible to even get down.

-Update computers more often to truly reflect the inventory which is in store. I don't know about you, but it seems like almost everytime I go to Canadian Tire, they are out of what I'm looking for. This has happened to me so many times that I now look up the item on the internet before hand, and check which stores have it "in stock" before I go. Still about 50% of the time the item isn't anywhere to be found in the actual store even though the site said it was.

Seriously, Canadian Tire is a poorly run company. The only reason they stay in business is that they have a near monopoly on a lot of items because the Canadian marketplace is very weak. They would not be able to survive in the US or European marketplaces. About the only thing they have going for them is tools and common car parts. They have a pretty good selection and decent prices on those. With a little effort in the areas of better quality sporting goods, tasteful car mod options, and overall organization, they could dominate and be far more profitable.

However since they basically have a monopoly in many things that they sell, they really have no incentive to improve. Without the competition to force them into stepping up their game, they are more than happy to maintain the status quo as they are still a reasonable profitable company.

Each location is independently owned and operated. CT corporate only has so much control.

Canadian Tire has sold more than just tires for years and years.

They have an entire electrical department for your home. Sporting goods, small appliances, paint, etc...

Why not milk?

You can get milk at the 7-11, why not at Canuck Tire? Seems reasonable to have a small cooler there. It would be as fresh as the stuff anywhere else.

Overwaitea is coming

I thought Overwaitea owned Save-On anyways? Are you sure you're not thinking of Sam's Club?

I worked at a Canadian Tire for a while and it was very poorly run from middle management all the way to the top.
Customer service is stressed by the owner, but stocking shelves and other issues are stressed by the managers. So you get in trouble for doing one or the other. There's not enough time scheduled to do both and get everything done that you're expected to. This results in most employees actually hiding from and avoiding customers because its a waste of time to help them.

There are not enough employees ever and the employees are only trained in their departments and can't help other customers/have no motivation to.

There were a couple (2-3) good mechanics that I knew that worked in service, and a BUNCH of high school/apprentice kids that didnt know shit. These are the kids working on your car.

Items are almost impossible to find in the wharehouses. Some employees will tell you they're looking for something and really just go to the wharehouse and walk around for a while not looking. No one is explicitly responsible for updating the computer systems for lost inventory

Most other Canadian Tires I visit seem to be run the same, even though they have independent owners. They all follow the same systems.

Groceries at Canadian Tire seems ridiculous, especially with the mess that the wharehouse is in. They're going to need a new set of rules to follow to keep food fresh and sanitary.

I hate that place!

People still go to Canadian Tire? I've completely switched over to Home Depot, 10 times the selection.

You don't take your car there because they're GOOD. You take it because it's CHEAP. As in, they'll read your fault codes for $10, shit like that. Hell, I used to take my old Escort there all the time when I couldn't be bothered working on it. It's a Ford, how bad can they fuck it up?
