View Full Version : Gas Mileage, what do you get?

sr20s14zenki

Ok, so im just curious what some people are getting for gas mileage, mostly for hondas, but hey, throw it out there. I calculated 46 mpg and thats mostly hiway with some city, ie get off on peigan and take it to 72nd. here is my math

filled car full before the test, reset trip meter to 0
drove back and forth from crossfield to work, about 55k one way

today i filled the tank back up after 3 days, with a bit of driving around, it was at 300km, i fill it up all the time cuz my gas guage is fucked.

anyways, it took 16.30$, with gas at 96 centts/litre, lets say 16 litres

there is 3.7 litres in a us gallon, no? so lets round up to 4 litres in a us gallon, so 4 into 16 is 4, so i would say i used 4 gallons

300km divided by 1.609 is 186.45 miles.

186.45 miles divided by 4 gallons is 46.6 MPG...am i wrong? anybody comparable. This is in a 89 crx si with a d15z7 engine, good running order

I heard a rumour that Saab 93's are the most fuel efficient cars in the universe. Maybe "someone" here can attest?

I've gotten down to 6L/100KM once, which is about 39 US MPG.

Or in the case of the Imperial Gallon, 47MPG.

Lol at bad math.

Anyways:

1990 300ZX Twin Turbo. About 14 mpg or 17L/100km. All city mileage, mostly driven conservatively with the odd "spirited" pull from a light.

Been running a tad rich.

Damn I was just thinking today about how I was getting a pretty decent average of 21/22mpg. Now after seeing you guys with 40+ it makes me miss driving a Honda.

But I guess for those of you who are getting twice as much mpg as me, at least I have twice the power :poosie: ...except that damn Saab.

Used to get ~40MPG with my stock Potenza RE92 tires @32psi. Probably one of the lowest rolling resistance tires, but they suck in every other way. Then I upgraded to a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX @36psi and I am down to 30-35MPG. Probably going to get worse when I switch to my Blizzaks for the winter.

Nope, I am running my new tires 4 psi higher too. Right after I switched the tires my MPG just dropped suddenly, same route to UofC everyday, same driving habits. Apparently the RE92s are a very low resistance tire....that's why the Insight Hybrid uses it.

Does low resistance = low traction?

10.5L/100kms 100% city driving mostly to and from DT so lots of stop and go.
Definatelly not easy on the go pedal.

Interesting that same driving style I got roughly the same if not a little worse on the 07 VW Rabbit. with 100 less hp.

On the highway I can get over 700kms on 40-ish litres of fuel.

Last time I actually calculated it in my 1994 Civic CX, it was definitly above 40USmpg for highway driving. Drops down to about 30USmpg city driving since I drive 5 kms each way (short drives from dead cold).

Edit-
I should clarify the 30-ish USMPG is with STRICTLY city driving. Which is really impressive if you ask me in Edmonton.

Between 16MPG and 19MPG in the city depending on how heavy my foot is.

Cruising on the highway at a steady 140 km/h I get about 28 MPG as per the trip computer.

I get around 21.3MPG or 11L per 100KM.

I was actually kinda shocked to get 500km out of about 55L in the city, I wasn't driving conservatively.

The worst I've got was around 15MPG, that was money well spent.:D

Here's a recent thread with additional answers to the same questions: http://forums.beyond.ca/st/226077/post-the-best-fuel-economy-youve-got-with-your-car/

As gpomp said, everyone posting their MPG numbers needs to clarify if they're talking about imperial or metric gallons.:whipped:

Here's a handy conversion tool for your fuel economy: http://www.onlineconversion.com/fuel_consumption.htm

Car: 2002 Z06
Fuel Economy Seen: 7.26L/100km or 32.4MPG imperial, or 38.91MPG metric
Over what Distance: 220km (Lethbridge to Calgary)
Driving Note: speed was 110-120km/h. Theoretical range with 70L tank is 960km. I've made it over 900km one one tank multiple times.

Car: 2002 Focus SVT
Fuel Economy Seen: 10.6L/100km city driving = 22.2MPG imperial, 26.6MPG metric (I have not driven it much yet)
Over what Distance: 450km

HiTempguy1

My car gives me MPG specs in US-MPG. So it's 16.8 MPG or 14.1 L/100KM for my mixed city/fwy/hwy driving.

Sure sounds better when I say it gets 20 MPG (UK MPG) though. :p

2003 Honda CR-V - ~ 10 L / 100 KM in town. I'm not exact on this as it's the wife's car and she doesn't track it all that well.

I find the BIGGEST influence on fuel consumption is how I drive, not what I drive. A gentle foot can save at least 25%.

29.16 miles per Imp gal averaging 73 mph over 300+ miles last week coming back from Vegas. 6 litre/400hp LS2 engine/4000lb car. Good thing they don't build them like they used to or mileage would have been 15 mpg like my 68 442.
