So yesterday, the train going home from work (dt -> brentwood) was more packed then usual. It's rush hour, I'm getting crushed, starting to get pissed off, when I get off the train.

"Sweet freedom!" I think to myself, as I head to the temporary dirt lot near the back, to hop into my car before heading home, and then on to the gym.

As I walk up to the lot, I take my iPod out, to turn it off, and unlock my car in the same process. I see my car in the distance, lights blinking in sync with the unlocking. As I approach the car, something looks strange to me. I walk up, my face slowly turning red, my heartbeat increasing, and my anger rising.

Lo and behold, I come across this:

Yea. My car got broken into.

Background information:

Window was smashed. Someone else's bag (would be thief?) left their bag (pictured) in my car.

Possible footprint on the window sill.

Nothing was stolen. Deck faceplate (stored between seats, but not anymore) had been moved. Looked like he was gonna grab it, but dropped it. Glove compartment was ripped open, nothing missing.

Passenger side door lock clip (from the inside) is broken, probably why he didn't get in. Been like that for 2 years.

Alarm probably scared him.

CT Operational officer was dispatched and left a note/report on my window.

Called cops, waited 2 hours, couldn't get the police to show, so I have to get them to come check it out today.

Car across from me was broken into as well. It had been moved, and someone else had taken his spot by the time I had gotten there.

Someone called CT @ 12:55pm, and they had shown up @ ~1:20pm.

I think that's everything.

+1 for the CT Officer leaving a note, telling me what was going on.
-1 for not having vandalism coverage.

Anyone know a good place for glass?

great to hear that you just need to replace the window and nothing else was ripped out or stolen. GET THAT VANDALISM COVERAGE!

Glass, I usually go to crystal glass or speedy glass.

Sounds like someone might have chased them off... only reason I can think they would leave their bag and not take anything.

Cops just came by my work to take my statement, and the bag. He figures it's probably stolen from another vehicle or something.

I figure worst case scenario, I pay for the glass to get replaced, and go on with my life.

Best case, they find the guy, I press charges/small claims court to recoup the money for the glass, and go on with my life.

I highly doubt that they'll catch the guy, but I figure it's better to have it on file, just in case.

damn! Hopefully it won't be too much to replace it. Glad nothing was taken, I work in the building right next to the brentwood station parking lot

yea, PnP window job would be less than 50 bucks, speedy glass ought to be about 100.

just pay for it and move on, it sucks, I've been there.

sorry to hear it!

Shitty deal dude, my car was borken into last thursday. The thief ended up taking my backpack and my winter jacket.. I am more pissed about the fact he stole my notes than anything. I went to the wreckers and got some glass and installed it my self.

Good luck.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. You got off relatively lucky. I wouldn't have waited for the cops to show though - they're pretty useless when it comes to car B&Es. They'll also take the stuff that the thief left for evidence.

My car was broken into last time and the cops took a nifty pocket knife that the thieves left behind. If I didn't call the cops, the pocket knife would've been mine!

This happens very often to me and in front of my house too. Very wierd/funny stuff has happened to me. Well I was just surfing the net and my parents come and tell me that these 3 kids just tried to steal our 92 civic but it didnt have enough gas nor did they know how to drive manual and only moved a few meters. It was kinda funny cause it was like 2pm in the afternoon so they booked it and it seems that they have broken the lock a couple days before hand. They were kinda angry so every so often now they come back and break some of our windows luckily my dad is a mechanic and replaces it them for around 50$ and sometimes they draw on my bmw at like 4 in the morning they really must have nothing to do.

I think my sister parked at Brentwood station before and had some kid run across her car. Dented the roof and bent the spoiler having it make contact with the trunk. A witness said the kid was pretty big but that was about all the help she could give... That's a baaad place to park if you ask me.

speedy was good to me when I was in the same situation.

Seriously though, even with the snow, it would be worth a quick zip to PnP as you will save $40-50 on the job and it is dead easy. The removal of the glass on the junkyard car will teach you all you need to know about installing it on your car. Any mistakes you make are on the shitty car and you can do your car right.

I happen to have a passenger window for an EG hatch sitting in an extra door in my garage. You are more then welcome to HAVE it. My only condition would be that you take the door too.

Send me a PM if you are interested. Its free passenger window and at least you would be getting OEM glass. I could help you put it in the new car too if you would like.
