Irving Wire Products Corporation.

Drove through it on the train, I thought it was on the west side of the train tracks, south side of glenmore. but its on the east side.

So is the c-train running again?

Need a ride down to the dome for the Flames game in an hour or so.... and yea, McLeod Trail was full of people walking and general chaos.

EDIT: the trains back up and running.

Just rode past on the train and the north end of the building is still on fire.

Just an update to those of you who care:

The building is still on fire as of 8:30 tonight. Large amounts of smoke are still coming from the building and there are still a lot of fire trucks and other emergency personel there. Centre St/Fairmount Drive is open again for traffic, but the area still smells pretty bad due to all of the smoke still billowing in the air. I would imagine Glenmore is still getting a lot of smoke across it when you drive over the Centre St/Fairmount off ramp. The worst of it is over, they're just knocking down hot spots now.

Not too sure if anyone remembers the Duralite fire that had half the neighbourhood of Fairview evacuated, but this building that went up tonight is directly down the hill from the Duralite building (seriously, about 70 foot steps away). This coming thursday (two days from now) is the 7 year anniversary of that fire and 360 out of 365 days a year, the wind is usually blowing straight up that hill towards entire neighbourhoods of homes. By some stroke of weather luck, the wind was blowing the other way today. Otherwise, it once again would have impacted and evacuated a neighbourhood of innocent people as well as two schools. Thank goodness this factory didn't deal with some of the hazardous chemicals Duralite did, and hurray for the wind being unusual today.

Calgary Transit gets a big fat F- on their handling of this situation (as usual)

our train stopped at 39th ave around 5pm. "shuttle buses will be provided to take people to chinook and heritage stations." yah right. when we got to 39th, there were several hundred people wandering about aimlessly. I started walking up towards chinook on macleod. not one active bus or shuttle passed me as i was walking up macleod, but there was one empty out of service bus that did.

I got to chinook and that's when i saw 1 shuttle bus pull up. needless to say there was no room for anyone to get on. I kept walking up to heritage. between chinook and heritage i saw NO shuttle buses pass me, but for some reason 2 empty out of service buses passed me. :banghead:

fuck you, calgary transit.
